UPS vs. FedEx. Who gets to be king of hill? – Land Line

Was 2021 the year FedEx passed UPS to become the biggest carrier in North America? In its annual top 250 carriers list, CCJ Magazine said FedEx is now number 1. We’ll have to wait until June for the Transport Topics top 100 carriers list. It will probably show the same thing.

Earlier this year, UPS sold off its LTL unit UPS Freight, and UPS CEO Carol Tomé declared the goal was to make UPS “better not bigger.” It sounded like she was preparing the world for a UPS move to second place.

It was a long road to the top for UPS.

The company began in Seattle as a bicycle messenger service in 1907 but soon began delivering packages for the Bon Marché Department Store using a doctored Model-T Ford. In those days before most families had a car, department stores delivered your purchases. You didn’t have to carry stuff home. What was then called Merchants Parcel Delivery eventually served department stores up and down the West Coast before expanding to stores across the country.

New Paris’ only UPS driver retires after 39 years – WNDU

Known as “George the UPS man,” George Doi has been the only UPS driver in New Paris, Indiana since 1988.

George delivered his last truck of packages before retirement on Christmas Eve.

“It’s kind of exciting you know I’m just ready to move into a different step of my life you know the job’s changed so much, and it’s a lot more work and once you hit sixty, your legs don’t want to go in and out of the truck 200 times a day,” said George.

New Paris residents put out hundreds of signs displayed in yards and window fronts to thank George, while greeting him during his deliveries.

Pets also came out to show their support, like Rizzo, who runs out to meet George every time he delivers a package.

UPS staff member Andy Hicks even played Santa for more than two hours for the boys to enjoy.

The mother of the boys Emma-Claire Wright said: “One of my sons has autism and attends Manor Green school in ifield. One of the things that he loves are UPS trucks. He calls them Santa trucks and thinks they work for Santa delivering special parcels.

“I contacted UPS to see if I could pay them to deliver a special Santa letter to my sons this year as they would be so excited that a Santa’s helper delivered their letter directly from the big man himself!

UPS man with a signature friendly ‘beep’ honored for Feel Good Friday – East Idaho News

We recently received an email about a UPS driver named Robert. Here’s what it said:

Holidays are here and shipping and delivery are keeping those UPS drivers very busy. We have on our route a young man named Robert.

During the pandemic, I never saw Robert without a smile! Still, to this day, he smiles while dropping packages at their destination! I’ve even driven by a delivery and saw him singing! However, Robert has “his signature.” He beeps his horn as he arrives AND when he leaves the delivery. Not just my place but EVERY stop he makes! I always know when Robert is in the neighborhood because I hear him beep his horn. He is like the ice cream truck.
