UPS driver in Texas puts packages in plastic bags to protect from Nicholas’ rain – Fox10

A UPS driver was captured on video going above and beyond while dropping off packages in Texas amid Tropical Storm Nicholas dumping heavy rain on the region.

The driver was seen on Sept. 14 placing packages in plastic bags outside of a home in Bridge City, Texas, located about 25 miles southeast of Beaumont. The U.S. Gulf Coast was being hit by Nicholas at the time, drenching the area with flooding rains.

The driver, later identified as Chason Burch, had delivered packages to the home before and is aware of challenges they face, according to neighborhood resident Vanessa Gross.

Gross recorded a video of the thoughtful gesture and shared the moment on Facebook.

‘Trust is there’ between UPS and its mentee company – Atlanta Business Chronicle

Landing a big corporate client is a dream for many entrepreneurs. For small minority business enterprises (MBEs), the corporate client also can bring challenges. Successful business relationships must be built on trust and a willingness by the corporation to nurture those small companies so they can rise to the challenges, according to one corporate client, UPS.

“It’s critical that we work with high-performing, high-quality suppliers,” said Kris Oswold, vice president for global supplier diversity at United Parcel Service Inc. “These suppliers are partners with us to meet our customer’s needs.”

UPS spends more than $2.8 billion with small businesses, including $1 billion with diverse and minority-owned firms, according to Oswold. The company participates in the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council (GMSDC) program mentoring MBEs, including Stellar Consulting Solutions, a technology staffing and services firm.

UPS drivers follow a heavily regimented process in order to maintain safety and efficiency on the job.

Delivery drivers have become an increasingly important part of the global ecosystem. UPS alone processes about 6.5% of the US’ gross domestic product every day, the company’s spokesperson told Insider. As the US faces major supply-chain snags and bottlenecks, heavily engineered processes like UPS’ 500-plus delivery methods help keep deliveries flowing.

The company’s 79-page “Service Provider Delivery and Pickup Methods” manual breaks down everything from how to pre-plan for stops to how to exit a UPS truck without putting any additional strain on your body, according to a new book from The Wall Street Journal’s Christopher Mims. In the book, “Arriving Today: From Factory to Front Door – Why Everything Has Changed About How and What We Buy,” Mims details the intricate processes that bring goods from Asia to the US.
