UPS Pays $1 Million To Settle Wage Theft Allegations Over Charitable Deductions – Huffpost

UPS workers in New York will receive more than $1 million from UPS after alleging the company illegally redirected money from their paychecks to a charitable campaign.

The wage theft lawsuit revolves around the shipping company’s annual fundraiser for the United Way. According to the workers, in 2019 and 2020 the company diverted money from their checks ― typically a $1 or $2 each time ― even though it didn’t have their written permission to do so.

Those small deductions apparently added up among a group of roughly 6,000 workers. The total amount over two years came to $789,432, according to court documents. Adding in other damages, UPS agreed to pay out $1.1 million, plus attorney fees, to resolve the claims.

UPS Same-Day Unit Roadie Says Delivery Volume Doubled Last Month – BNN Bloomberg

Roadie, the same-day delivery startup that United Parcel Service Inc. acquired in October, said its package volume more than doubled in November from a year earlier as shoppers heeded the call to make holiday purchases early.

Deliveries so far in December have increased from last year, but the company declined to provide details. Roadie has added new customers including, Office Depot Inc. and Abercrombie & Fitch Co., and is delivering more large items, said Marc Gorlin, Roadie’s founder and chief executive officer.

“The retailers just have a stronger ground game this year,” Gorlin said in an interview. “People are shopping earlier and retailers made it easier by spreading out the sales events.”

UPS Hit with Federal and California Labor Lawsuit – Lawyers and Settlements

On November 9, Galena Goins, Sonia Lopez, and Terry A. Jones-Jackson filed a nationwide class action and collective lawsuit in the District Court for the Northern District of California alleging that their employer, United Parcel Service, systematically discriminated against them and women similarly situated on the basis of gender, age and disability. They claim that UPS violated federal and California labor law.

The Complaint alleges that UPS was aware of the harassing and discriminatory treatment and failed to take appropriate steps to remedy the situation. The lawsuit names the women’s supervisor, Richard M as the “the chief harasser, and retaliator in charge of small sort [the area in which all of the women worked],”and seeks at least $250 million in actual, compensatory and punitive damages, among other remedies. This is not the first time UPS has been the subject of a race, age and gender discrimination lawsuit.

“Old boys club” at Oakland hub

The Oakland UPS sorting hub sounds like a workplace rife with discrimination and sexual harassment. Women who were regarded as too feminine and those chose to take advantage of the company’s paid time off or flexible work schedule policy to work part-time to care for family were reportedly left especially vulnerable.

UPS Driver Stops Woman To Tell Her A Surprisingly Sweet Thing About Her Dog – The Dodo

If you walk by Chloe Bonnell’s house in Tallahassee, Florida, chances are you’ll spot a sweet face looking back at you. A black and white dog named Atlas sits in the window all day, patiently waiting for his mom to return.

And the pup’s faithfulness hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Bonnell adopted Atlas last March after a friend sent her a Facebook post about an abandoned litter of puppies. She wasn’t sure if she was ready for a dog, but when she met Atlas, he wouldn’t let her leave without him.

“He came right up to me and wouldn’t leave me alone,” Bonnell told The Dodo. “I feel like God told me to get that pup because he knew what was coming next. He’s my little saving grace and has been with me through this whole pandemic and virtual teaching.”

Last week, Bonnell returned home from work after a stressful day to find a package at her door. When the UPS delivery man drove up the street and stopped in front of her house, she assumed something was wrong.

“He said, ‘Excuse me, ma’am, can I talk to you for a second?’ I put my stuff down and walked back out to him, preparing for some random bad news,” Bonnell wrote on Facebook. “He said, ‘That is the most loyal dog I have ever seen. Does he just sit there all day and look out the window while you are gone? Every time I drive by, he is sitting right there. Even when I come up to drop off a package, he doesn’t bark at me. Most dogs do. I knock and he just looks at me. I guess he is just waiting for you to come home, so he’s not bothered by me. Anyways, I love driving by because I always see him sitting in the window.’”
