Finding a job and overcoming language barriers – UPS

“Dreams don’t work unless you do.”

For UPSer Thalia Almenares Lozada, these six words have served as a beacon on her journey to a better future — a future that began when she, her mother and younger brother emigrated from Cuba to the U.S. in 2016.

Thalia said her first priority was finding a job.

“It was intimidating to be in a new country, not speaking the language and looking for a job,” she said. “I was having a difficult time finding a company that would hire me due to the language barrier.”

Testing ideas in the real world – UPS

UPS uses modern tech labs to innovate faster

These days, it can seem like customer needs change overnight.

The Global Advanced Technology Group (GATG) plays a huge role in making sure UPS’s smart logistics network is up to this challenge. They quickly identify, evaluate and implement technologies to meet customer needs today and in the future.

Two Atlanta-area tech labs give the ATG space to experiment with new concepts and see how ideas could work in real life.

Though each space has unique features and serves different needs, the Robotics AI Lab (RAIL) and the GATG rapid prototyping lab have a common purpose – to prepare for the unpredictable and fast-paced future.

Salvation Army Haiti earthquake response expands as UPS flies in additional resources – Reliefweb

Salvation Army personnel in Haiti continue to work with community leaders in nine of the worst-hit areas to ensure that the most vulnerable people are supported in the aftermath of this traumatic disaster. As well as addressing practical needs – such as food, clean drinking water, shelter, nappies/diapers and bedding – trained and experienced team members offer emotional and spiritual care.

Global shipping and logistics services provider UPS has generously supported the relief efforts by freighting supplies from The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services warehouse in Florida, USA to a distribution hub in Haiti. The pallets transported by UPS included 22,500 face masks, more than 100,000 disinfectant wipes and around 7,200 heavy-duty trash bags. Every item will help vulnerable communities with the arduous task of cleaning and restoring houses and other premises hygienically and in a COVID-safe manner. The supplies which have now been received in Port-au-Prince have also replenished the local supplies of hygiene kits and tarpaulins.

UPS donates school supplies to families in need in Lackawanna County – WNEP

This year, UPS donated over 400 backpacks to Lackawanna County Youth and Family Services.

School supplies aren’t something every child is able to get their hands on.

That’s why UPS donated backpacks filled with supplies to Lackawanna County’s Office of Youth and Family Services.

Caseworkers can pick up however many backpacks they need at the county’s government center and bring them to the children they work with.

The backpack drive was started by UPS’s women’s leadership development group seven years ago.
