    UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced that it is making a commitment to hire more than 25,000 veterans over the next five years as well as committing to serve more than 25,000 employee volunteer hours helping veterans and Veterans Service Organizations (VSO).

    UPS made the announcement in cooperation with the Obama Administration initiative "Joining Forces," a program dedicated to connecting our servicemen and women, veterans and military spouses with the critical resources they need to find high-value jobs at home. At the Business Roundtable today First Lady Michelle Obama, who is leading the Joining Forces initiative, called out UPS as a corporate leader committed to supporting our troops.

    The new The UPS Store franchise model allows qualifying franchisees to save $20,000 in fees and an additional $40,000-$60,000 in other The UPS Store franchise costs compared to Franchisees in more urban locations. According to 2010 Census data, nearly one-third of U.S. residents live in rural areas.

    UPS Info for UPSers UPS’s New Contract With Teamsters Removes Strike Threat - Bloomberg

    The accord includes “substantial” pay raises, higher wages for new part-time employees and the creation of 2,000 more full-time jobs from the ranks of part-timers, the union said yesterday in an e-mailed statement. The agreement will go to a ratification vote among rank-and-file drivers, package sorters and clerks at the world’s largest package-delivery company and will take effect on Aug. 1.

    United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) and the Teamsters union agreed to a new five-year contract covering 250,000 employees, erasing the risk of losing some business even with only the threat of a strike.

    The contract preserves health-care benefits and boosts pension contributions, making it a win for UPS Teamsters “at a time when workers and their pay, benefits and working conditions are under attack by corporate America,” Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa said in the statement.

    UPS Info for UPSers New Accords Cover Small Package and Freight Groups

    UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced that it has reached a tentative agreement with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (Teamsters) on two, new five-year contracts in the small package and freight business units. The tentative contracts, which must be presented to the UPS Teamster-represented employees for ratification, were concluded well in advance of the July 31, 2013, expiration of the current contracts.

    "These agreements are a 'win-win-win' for our people, customers and shareholders," said Scott Davis, UPS chairman and CEO. "The fact that we have reached agreements well before our current contracts expire is a testament to the skills and determination of all those involved in these negotiations."

    The new contracts enable UPS to remain highly competitive, customer-focused, and positioned to deliver transformative technologies in such areas as healthcare logistics and e-commerce on a global scale.

    Upon ratification, the new agreements will take effect on August 1, 2013.
