Sacramento man praises UPS driver for going the extra mile – ABC 10

Back in August 2020, William Chan was at his home in Sacramento, recovering from COVID-19, when he saw a delivery notification. He said after reviewing video from his Nest camera, he noticed the UPS delivery driver didn’t just drop off his package.

“I was wondering what he was doing. He picked up something on the ground and then spent some time on the grass,” Chan said. “That’s when I realized he was actually kneeling down and fixing the flag.”

That delivery driver was Wes Lester, who had been driving for UPS for the last three years.

“I was honestly just trying to make good time that day,” Lester said. “I saw the flag down and was like, ‘Oh, gotta fix that.’”

Wednesday’s donation to Wayside Christian Mission started after a call to action as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Day last month.

UPS CEO: Now is the time to ‘really rethink our business model’ – Yahoo

UPS CEO Carol Tomé is wasting no time putting her 25 years of experience at Home Depot to work at reshaping the 114-year old logistics leader. That time at Home Depot includes 18 years serving as its CFO, shepherding the home improvement giant through the Great Recession.

Since taking over as CEO of UPS in June, Tomé (who had been on the UPS board since 2003) has launched a review of the entire UPS business. That has included assessing the UPS culture, its internal operating processes, and the very business model of the company. Tomé told Yahoo Finance Live the review had to happen so UPS could bring down its debt and costs, support higher dividend payouts, and position the business correctly for the future.

Having followed Tomé’s career for some time, this writer will note the obsessive focus on improving UPS’ returns is no surprise — it’s her modus operandi.

UPS CEO Sees Wider Profit Margins in 2021 After ‘Turning Point’ – MSN

United Parcel Service Inc.’s profit jumped in the fourth quarter as a rush of online holiday shopping boosted package volume and enabled the courier to raise its prices.

The results marked a “turning point” for UPS’s efforts to increase revenue faster than volume, Chief Executive Officer Carol Tome told analysts Tuesday after the company reported earnings. While UPS declined to venture a detailed financial forecast because of uncertainty from the coronavirus pandemic, profit margins will expand in 2021, Tome said.

UPS is expecting another strong year after record sales in 2020, as consumers continue to avoid stores in favor of e-commerce shipments to their homes. That’s powering demand for the courier’s ground deliveries while the air-freight operation is poised for growth as it ramps up global distribution of Covid-19 vaccines.
