11 catalytic converters stolen from 6 UPS trucks in Lufkin – KLTV

Eleven catalytic converters were stolen from six UPS trucks according to UPS manager Susan Hannah.

Lufkin police responded to the United Parcel Service at 2805 S. First Street where the trucks were parked overnight. Hannah spoke with her mechanic who parked one of the affected trucks in the parking lot on Wednesday at 1:30 a.m., so she believes the theft occurred after that time.

Police report the crew began driving the trucks off the lot at approximately 9:30 a.m., realizing there were problems and returned or stayed at the location.

FedEx Plans 70,000-Job Hiring Spree for Record Holiday Surge – MSN

FedEx Corp. plans to hire about 70,000 seasonal workers to handle the holiday surge of packages, up 27% from last year’s peak, in what is expected to be an unprecedented level of delivery demand.

The courier has already added thousands of workers to keep up with a jump in deliveries as consumers order more online because of coronavirus concerns. Why Shares of United Parcel Service Gained Ground in August – NASDAQ

What happened

Shares of United Parcel Service were up 14.6% in August, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence, building on late-July gains after solid second-quarter results. UPS has held up well through the pandemic and appears to have some pricing power heading into the winter holiday season, giving investors plenty of reason to get excited.

So what

COVID-19 has altered business for UPS and other transportation companies, causing some disruptions to operations but also adding new opportunities as e-commerce flourishes. We didn’t really know how that would all play out in terms of earnings until July 30, when UPS delivered a quarter that far exceeded expectations.

FedEx, UPS holiday advice to big shippers: Bring the big wallet – Freight Waves

Peak-season surcharges could make it a red Christmas for parcel customers

FedEx Corp. and UPS Inc. have a holiday message for their big customers: Prepare to pay up or prepare to pound sand.

An extraordinary year for parcel shipping will conclude with an equally extraordinary peak season. Carriers are bracing for unprecedented volumes as the normal holiday shop and ship hysteria meets the abnormal nine-month surge in e-commerce as consumers continue to avoid stores due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Just as unprecedented, however, will be the surcharges levied by the carriers to deliver all these domestic parcels. For the first time, peak surcharges to handle “standard-size” parcels, the familiar packages that carriers process through their automated conveyor systems, will be pegged to a range of shipper volumes. And it will be the big shippers, companies accustomed to leveraging their massive volumes to win rate discounts, that bear the brunt of the fees. Small to midsize customers that typically pay higher rates throughout the year will be exempt from the surcharges unless their volumes exceed thresholds that would be hard to reach even during the holidays.
