2011 Consolidations?

Back to the OP's topic . . .

I agree that we'll find that the 3/20 structure is here to stay for a few years to let the dust settle. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these mega-districts actually get split back up due to the shear geography that they cover.

As for the departmental consolidations, many of the departments that were affected this past year are still reeling from the reorganizations. Again, it's time to let the dust settle for a little while.

If you keep consolidating to no end, there comes a point where the original cost savings are negated with people in new roles and responsibilities as well as severance packages.
its no secret that outsourcing management and clerical jobs will be stepped up...i see lp, cs, ie, and pe the first to go then hr....

I haven't seen or heard any evidence of this. Shared services is what I'm hearing. PE and Security are already involved in freight operations.

They're going be forced to outsource IE soon. They're all quitting. Same with PE.

If HR is here to stay, I like to know where they're hiding. Other than a few specialists and a few supervisors they were all wiped out in what was a former district.

I would hope not. The feeder department is the only group of employees worth anything anymore.

Well depending on where you are IE and HR are more visible. IE and HR were drastically reduced and some of these smaller buildings and centers are being managed from afar.

Current feeder drivers? Quite a few, maybe half. Work P/T for 5 -7 years, drive as friend/T package driver for 20 -25 years and then you can go to Feeder.

So far H.R. and Moncton Billing in Canada have been downsized (hello India). I think Corporate Shared Services (Billing, Collections, Customer Service, Payroll, etc.) is about to get the hammer across the board.

The next contract will be very interesting. Our wages and compensation package is second to none and with our main competitor being non-union, this does present one heck of a pricing advantage. I for one would be willing to take a wage freeze to better position us in pricing if truly needed. I'm afraid that we can only be so efficient and that we eventually will plateau.

Actually depending on where you are located the total union compensation varies from 15th place to 3rd place....I suggest that you talk with a few iam mechanics and a few pilots to see how negotiations and compensations are done well.

I think the UAW did a really good job of negotiating contracts. Maybe your kids and grandkids can pay for your pension like you and I are paying for the UAW members.

With all respect I was referring to the wide variance of total compensations across the USA. medical and retirement compensations vary considerably, Perhaps the next contract will address this situation.

I think our people work very hard but I'm not sure why you would compare their compensation to others packages in other industrys such as pilots and mechanics.
