If you knew anything about history, I'm pretty sure you'd have a different tune. People have been shot, beaten, stabbed, and run over for the rights you enjoy but don't contribute towards. Personally, I don't really care how union members vote in government elections. I'm willing to make the case for a certain endorsement and explain how voting for them is in their best interest and leave it at that. I can disagree with my brothers and sisters and I've even taken heat from them with a smile - as long as they're respectful about it - while I've been out doing Get Out The Vote activities for my local. Besides, the direct monetary political contributions to candidates doesn't even come from dues money, it comes from entirely voluntary D.R.I.V.E. contributions. Regardless, they absolutely have the right to criticize the political endorsements their union makes as dues paying members. But the one thing I can't stand is a low-rent chicken**** scab that enjoys the wages, benefits, and working conditions negotiated by the union that represents them and still has the audacity to attack it. If your pay and benefits were so awful, you'd work elsewhere. That's the free market at its finest, right? But you're either too spineless or stupid to do so, so you're just willing to reap the rewards of the hard work and contributions of others. Fact of the matter is.. you've probably got at least 5 or 6 years in as a part-timer, so you're making ~$13-15/hr with a defined pension plan and a health care plan worth $4,000+/head annually that doesn't cost you a dime. And you won't even shell out the ~$30/month in dues that makes that possible.
