I am talking about casual/cover drivers who are not guaranteed to work every day. I spent 11 months as a casual. I was told to call in at least an hour before start time if not already scheduled to work. I was a young father with two young children who did not have the luxury of saying "thanks, but no thanks" if I were offered less than 8 hours of work. Most of the time if I came in to work for hours I ended up working 8 or more hours. Christmas Eve was an exception. Our center offered Code 05 to those who wanted it while making sure the guarantee was available to those who wanted it. Most of the guys were ready for Peak to be over and wanted to get home to their families so they chose to go 05. I understand what you are talking about but you need to realize that to a young driver 5-6 hours is better than none at all.
