Hey Agitator,

Thanks for your reasonable response...

I do have to say that there are a lot of people who seem thrive on the struggle and fighting rather than the having an informative discussion.

Ron Carey is as corrupt as any union leader we've had and he was TDU's boy. I think the '97 strike was a personal agenda of his and did not accomplish anything for us. It hurt UPS reputation, it hurt our customers, it Gave our competition an advantage and has created the constant scare that some of my customers still talk about to this day especially around contract time.

I realize that we have to negotiate what's best for us the company and the union but I guess what I'm trying to say is my passion is more bent on job security, a good penison, and benefits and so far we've done pretty well.

We're not lying down by accepting this contract..If that were true why wouldn't the union authorize a strike like they did in '97? It' because UPS is helping to bail out the Central States and those bros ought to be pretty excited that they get another chance at having a pension at all..:thumbup1:

Not only that, but he is currently barred from associating with the Teamster Union in any way. Funneling money to the DNC and expecting them to send you money back is not exactly legal. And yes, I voted for him originally to put him in office because of the "Old Guard" corruption I saw at my Local.

Govols019, I've got a personal ideology question for you. I see from your avatar that you are advertising that you support Ron Paul, a philosophical Libertarian, for president.

You also support the TDU, a group that was founded by a faction of the old International Socialist group in the 1970s.

Are you a Libertarian or a Socialist? If you're on both sides I'd like to know how that works for you. I thought the 2 were oposites.

Prove that.

TEAMSTERGATE

The case involved $885,000 given from union general treasury to the 1996 Clinton-Gore campaign in exchange for the Clinton campaign's contributions to Ron Carey's re-election fund. Carey was running to keep the job of Teamsters union president. The exchange was an illegal swap that later resulted in a federal court's voiding of Carey's slim election victory against now Teamster President James P. Hoffa.

Hey if Hillary gets in and Ron can get re-elected it'll be like old times!

RON CAREY

CAREY CLEARED OF LYING CHARGES

I know what you're thinking...He was aquitted...But so was O.J.

You should have a healthy amount of skepticism about everything that you read on the internet.

From BBC:
Wikipedia survives research test
The free online resource Wikipedia is about as accurate on science as the Encyclopedia Britannica, a study shows.
The British journal Nature examined a range of scientific entries on both works of reference and found few differences in accuracy.

Being a Ron Carey supporter doesn't mean you have to be a card carrying member of TDU. It's not that hard to figure out, is it?

APWA Hater
Who cares? It takes me 5 seconds to click the back button on my browser. Oh nose..CHANGE. Just don't read it, some of you guys act like this board owes you something.

What I have noticed is all the APWA cheerleaders have disapeered (or maybe this agenda driven crap has covered it up) and now they seem to be bashing the IBT on giving up the pension, when before, it seemed they WANTED the IBT to give it up because the IBT mismangaged it etc..

Its very hard for anyone to take the TDU and/or APWA remotely serious if you guys just bash ANY posistion the Teamsters take.

What gives?.....You guys are like locust. Frankly, the general concenses of members of Brown Cafe don't need your everyday bombardment of bias driven agenda. I'm sure we all welcome newbee's and various opinions and imput, but don't insult the inteligence and the integrity of our members and certainly not our administrater Cheryl. We all know whats important to us individually pertaining to this handshake agreement and frankly are getting tired of all you fly by nighters and one hit wonders trying to shove your contractrual personal agenda down the throats of the constant regular members of Brown Cafe. The proxies and actual contract proposals will mailed out and hopefully we can have a civilized question and answer thread to help all understand clearly(without bias) the ramifications of this handshake agreement. Hopefully when all is said and done, the unwelcome infiltrators will all crawl back under the rock you came from. BTW..This is not directed at any of the regular user's of Brown Cafe (unless your playing the name game).

Good point Diesel. This board getting bombarded with a bunch of one issue visitors who don't understand the community we have built here.

Yeah really..

Whats wrong trying to get involved with others and see whats going on. Alot of people are not sure were to turn to. Some local unions don't even have a site. Nothing wrong coming here and getting some info and ask some question with concern one might have. Heaven forbid if some new guy wants to get some info cause alot of centers are weak in the steward department.

You ever think some might have been around a long time lurking, probably alot longer then you. Maybe some might want to give something to the community instead of lame posts. Take it how you want it, I'm not a forum whore but i do my share of lurking from time to time.

I think its nice to see people concerned about their futures and want to voice a opinion to their brown brothers.
what local are you in? you hit the point a lot locals don't have web sites & some are under contruction. a few only give a little info. a lot of new hires don't even know who there stewards are when they have a concern, unfortunately the locals just wants there initation fees & run . by the way i'm from local 396 in southern cal take care
