U.S. authorities have largely discounted a claim by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula that it was responsible for the September crash of a United Parcel Service (UPS.N) cargo plane in Dubai, officials said on Thursday.
The Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a joint bulletin this week denying the claim of responsibility by the militant group, which also said it was behind the overseas package bomb plot uncovered last month, two U.S. officials told Reuters.
The bulletin told state and local law enforcement agencies that "the claims for the 9/3 crash are likely false," according to one U.S. law enforcement official, who also said that "there is no indication the 9/3 crash was an act of terrorism."
