Attitude Adjustment

How does UPS get away with being a multi-billion dollar company but can't make sure the computers are up to let employees clock-in?
Today was another one of those days when no computer would allow me to clock-in so I asked the SUP to manually punch me in.
"Yes, I got you covered. You'll be clocked in" he says.
End of the day, I find a computer, turns out I was never clocked in at all.
An entire day off the clock...great for management's numbers and maybe for the stock holders but not for me.
Then my SUP comes up and asks me to come in extra early.
"Will you pay me for it?" I asked spitefully...knowing that his reaction wouldn't be pleasant.
"Well not if you use that attitude" he says.
ATTITUDE! My attitude is the result of his lies and indifference!
They let other guys work an hour or more for free and no one says anything about it. Now that particular individual is on vacation suddenly I'm expected to fill his position. friend! THAT!
If UPS can't even get their computers to allow employees to clock in, and then lie to them about manually punching them in, then why should I give them even a modicum of loyalty.
Something needs to be done...they're obviously more concerned with pensions and management numbers to even pay their employees correctly, if this whole "union" thing wasn't just a big illusion like farce I would try to organize a petition to oust the current SUPs and put someone with basic computer skills in charge.
What a rip-off! When my pay-stub comes in, I'm going to make sure HR hears my story. Ridiculous!
You.didn't quit. Yet?

$400? When I started 4 years ago it was $100. Small price to pay for adequate representation.
States that are not "right to work" the Union can charge whatever they want for initiation dues. The Union could charge $4,000 initiation dues. Big price to pay for no representation. The Union wants to turn PT jobs even more then the company.

You do realize we can't hit a button and boom you're punched in right? We just do it at the end of the night because when we put a timecard in for you we need a start AND end time.

under capitalism you are just a number. you cease to be human and are just a means to make money for someone else.

you want to be treated differently? change the system!

And how do you do that?

I assume, since you are posting on this board, that you still work for big bad capitalist UPS.

Maybe this wont help but years ago I had a bad and angry attitude at work and probably railed against the company more than you do.

then I saw this movie, can not remember the name, where the character was just like me. his best friend said to him " what are you so angry about?"

the character took a step back confused but thought about it later. I did so too and realized just as the character did in the movie that we were very angry about something happening in our personal lives unrelated to our work.

my attitude towards work changed after much self contemplation on the matter since I realized that my health was suffering because of this anger. this was something I could control and I did.
I'm much much happier now.

so as a friend, why are you so angry ?

See if your check is correct when you get it.
If it is right, you ended up being all upset over nothing.
You are P'Od over something which may not be an issue.

You're right! We need an armed revolt! Maybe we could march on Atlanta and do a hostile takeover... We could call our new company the UPSSR.

the civil rights movement was beginning to link racism with economic oppression of capitalism. martin luther king was a socialist, and i guarantee you malcolm x was a socialist as well.

and why do you think people are voting for bernie sanders who calls himself a socialist, and donald trump who is a billionaire with no political experience? seems pretty extreme dont ya think? thats cuz america is cooked and people know it.

called worker cooperatives its where workers actually control (and own) the jobs they work in by making decisions including voting in/out managers. it already exists, and it has been pushed by many people on the left, and i think even ron paul signed some worker cooperative legislation. voting at the job would be the democratic thing to do.

right now under capitalism, you can take a number of issues and have a majority of workers who dont approve:
-ceo pay
-worker pay
-# of hours / week worked
-working condtions including safety
-voting out certain managers
etc

no i fall under the category of fired. they were scheduling us to work, and then sending us home with no pay which is legal but im not gonna waste my time for 13.5 / hr either way with that :censored2:. i wasnt gonna stick around anyways, too much BS for >15/hr. the whole "work a 9-7 until you retire" and hope the company doesnt rip you off on your pension which all kinds of capitalist and governments do, and pay the rent or a mortgage in a housing bubble is not for me. my plan is to do some camp jobs, fly in fly out, 2 weeks on/off and travel when im not at work.
