Brother, that was level 1

Gotta love the people in mgnt who worry about the union employees. like we didnt give up anything in our last contract. healthcare, pay raises twice a year, 1801 hrs needed to earn a full credit, i could go on and on, also the 5% affects me as well because i put money back into OUR company. Peace out

So you won't get your raise. Cry me a river. Try having your hours cut to a straight 8 and taking a $200.00-$300.00 a week cut. You get zero sympathy from this quarter.

LIB, Im not saying youre living beyond your means, but working ft is 8 hours paid, thats all your entitled to, I know most drivers work over 10 consistently but it shouldve been planned since the economy does go up and down in regular intervals that it wouldnt last forever.

I am pissed and ready to throw up. For example, if you were gonna get a $200 dollar raise and will work for 15 more years, this means about $60,000 loss in wages. It also pisses me off that I worked my tail off this year to be told a month before raises that we will not get one. For all who are trying to sugar coat this, stop this nonsense and give me a break. I think it stinks and unless I see Union employees giving up their raises this year, then it will prove that top mgmt is spineless and completely unfair to the poor Mgmt folks who have gotten screwed of so much over the past 10 years...Talk about stock elimination for 09 means I am gone. Maybe not immediately but as soon as the economy improves... That's what kept me around and them messing with raises, stock and benfits will just do it for me....they can have all the C & D players they want. They will not have me....

Life is unfair....Deal with it or leave the planet

8 hours may be all we`re entitled to but show me a driver that only works 8. I think he was talking about everyones wage loss. Oh, and going from 60 to 40 a week is a $900 a week hit. I do agree 100% with you about living beyond your means though.

As I climb on to my soap box.......... People, do you not read the papers?? Do you not watch TV?? Do you not see all the vacant stores in the strip malls?? We are in tough times. VERY tough times. We are all feeling the pinch one way or the other. Part timers, full timers and on and on. There will be a lot of hard lessons learned from this economy. Hopefully some will learn to prepare for tough times.
To all the management that received the tough news today, I feel your pain. When I was brought on at UPS I was told I would be full time by the end of 08. I am now looking at the end of 09 at the soonest. I will be scrapping the bottom for a while and continue to budget accordingly.
We will get thu this, but bickering about who has it worse is childish at best. We are all here for the same reason....to put food on the table and to live our lives.

Whether you are a full time driver taking a 900 dollar hit, or a part timer taking a 125 dollar hit.....it hurts.

Assuming you are actually mgt I'd be willing to bet you will be around once everything turns around. Raises will be reinstated and then you'll be ok.
I also bet you did not vote for Obama but your sense of entitlement indicates you should be right in line with him.
Write him a letter and I he'll tell you he is on your side and it's not fair. :wink2:

Also, a "small amount" will be set aside for merit increases for specialist level employees (at least they are attempting to look out for the little guy.) I expect MIP and LTIP will be the next domino to fall for 2009.

The specialists and the part time supervisors will get raises. Only Full Time Management will not get raises this year. I agree that "they are attempting to look out for the little guy". These are the lowest salaried management and would have been hurt the most.

In my family, I have a relative that lost his job because of the economy. I have another family member that was given a very sizeable paycut. I third ownd his own business and doesn't know if the lost revenue will allow him to survive the year.

My next door neighbor lost his job and cannot afford his house on just his wife's income. Their house is now on the market. They told their son he will have to leave college until they get back on their feet.

No raise. Oh my god. How will we survive???

I don't mean to make light of anyone's individual needs, but this was the right decision. Given the other alternatives, this was very fair and reasonable.

Think of what else could have happened....

Management (full time) raises only range from $50.00 to $200.00 per month. After taxes it's not that much all things considered. Eventually things will get better.

I am not a driver - but a UPS wife for 35 years....

1) UPS forced OT for so long that many people did not "live beyond their means", but became accustomed to that extra income. A lesson that should be learned by ALL hourly employees at EVERY company. Live on straight 8 hours - put the rest in savings. But alas..... for some, they learned that lesson too late.

2) Not much sympathy here for someone who didn't receive a raise .... Due to the economic situation, no one in my company has had a raise for three years. Effective January 15th, we were all given a pay cut.

3) I agree with the previous poster - if you have a job - be thankful! There are many who are without work.

I was pretty amazed at a story I saw on the news today about the Miami fire department preparing to hire 35 people. 1200 people showed up. Some of them sat in line for two days, waiting for their chance to put in their app.

It reminds me of the bread line pics from the Great Depression(God forbid it ever gets that bad again)

if you have a job - be thankful!

401k match for management people...and they are living beyond their means if their living beyond their base minimum salary, it doesnt matter whether or not if UPS forced the OT sometimes people just have to think for themselves

Will be posted on Upsers.com shortly. No raises for Mgt this year. 401K match suspended, Stock purchase reduced from %10 to %5. Will use last day of qtr to determine price.

A 5% stock discount isn't worth participating in...You can find that in the market and have immediate control of the shares.

I would rather have this then get a pay raise and then have to lay people off to cover it. Suck it up or get out. I think this is a good thing.

Yeah, drewed, you're right.......... however, when you're raising a family you sometimes need that OT to survive - and "surviving" did not mean living beyond your means. And sometimes young people don't stop to think about the long haul - they just see the "net" on their check. However, that is one lesson, we have tried to instill in our children - LIVE ON 40 HOURS A WEEK - SAVE THE REST!

If you don't like it, then just leave, that UPS door always revolves, and believe me many better than you will come and go.

Cut FT mgmt raises in 09, ok seems cut and dry. But there might be more to the rest. Cutting 401k match (which is matched up to 3% with UPS class B shares) and reducing the DESPP from 10% to 5% makes me think that there is more that what meets the eye in all this. Also, FT mgmt half month and selected MIP recipients might be the next course action by year's end. However, this announcment wont come out until mid-late october. Even after all that, i still fall asleep and wake up knowing that i have a good source of income. My only concern is that if/when compensation is furthered altered, will it ever return????
