Brownout At The Breeder's Cup - Forbes

A year's worth of creative ideas and new marketing initiatives aimed at boosting interest in horse racing's Breeder's Cup, set to kick off its two-day run this Friday outside Los Angeles, took a major hit last week when the industry darling, Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown, suffered a career-ending foot injury.

That means the centerpiece of this year's marketing campaign, the match-up of Big Brown and Curlin, the 2007 Breeder's Cup and Preakness and winner, isn't happening. So don't expect interest to rival any of the three Triple Crown events just yet.
