Is going to your wife's/baby's ultrasound (the one where you find out the gender) a justifiable reason to call in if getting the day off was not an option?

Don't have any paid sick days yet

  5. Just call in and explain the situation. Don't give out too much information. Just say you need to take your wife to the doctors.

If you can afford taking a dead day, do it.
As long as you aren't in any bad attendance situations, sounds like an important day for 2 young parents

    no reason needed.

"Hey bossman/woman, this is @giveme1time, I will not be in today." Hang up. Works every time.

I guess I really didn't think a doctor would say that my presence was "medically necessary"

All you need is proof of that there was a Doctor's appointment. Doesn't matter if you were needed there or not, it's your child.

Brownslave688 You want a toe? I can get you a toe.

I have one on the way I haven't asked for any days off. I simply say I won't be here X day. Wife has a doctors appointment.

Doesn't matter. If they give you a hard time file for FMLA.

I didn't really understand why I needed to be there until my wife had a miscarriage and I was too worried about not making the bosses mad instead of being at her doctors appointment.
