There's a sorter in my hub who has worked there for 8 or 9 years. I've been there for 1. Since I've been there, he is 20 to 30 mins late every single night, no matter the start time. Not exaggerating. I've been told its been going on for years. He's never been disciplined for it. No idea why or how he gets away with it. Any other job he would've been canned a long time ago.

The Sup must be an idiot. He's screwing himself twice. One because he's allowing someone to be late. And twice because others are going to walk all over him because what is his defense when he tries to nail them for being late?

The problem is that UPS frequently won't answer the phone when you try to call in early. It's made extra difficult on purpose.

Especially for the preload shift at 2-3am.

Calling out screws the hourlies more than it screws management.

How's that? I don't do more than my work if you had 10 call outs or 10 extra people. That's like saying cutting routes screws other drivers. Cut those routes, putting that extra work on the truck doesn't mean it's going to get done. Call outs cause management more problems, not me.

If you have a legitimate reason for calling in late, you may not get into trouble. It really depends on your management team.
