But is paying anything towards healthcare really a non starter for the union?

If it is I really think the company may believe they need to make a stand now rather than wait until the next contract.

With Fedex ground growing at the rate they are because of the BS model it is with non employee employees making a third of what you do without any benefits to speak of, they may be left with little choice....
Ill start paying for healthcare, when they change the color of my uniform......and No I didnt mean purple!

I'm not saying you should pay a dime, I don't think you should.

I am just trying to think through what may happen in the next few months.

You guys should stand strong, and if you do strike the union should lash out at Fedex as an example of how it is corrupting the rest of the industry with its unfair labor classification, and, the I still don't see how it is legal Ground rackett..........

While UPS makes record profits you want us to pay them? No.

Theres some good things there on that internet!

Australian woman delivers her own baby alone in hospital and even has to use painkillers from her handbag | Mail Online

This is another good example of universal health care.

How does that have anything to do with universal health care?

You're right about one thing: there are some good things on the Internet.

Why not blame it on Obama? He pasted a crappy bill with too many loop holes. Pelosi"We have to pass it to know whats in it" Really? All Employers are going to try and drop coverage for their employees because of Obamacare. What reason do part timers have to work at UPS if new hires no longer get insurance or I have to pay 30 bucks a week? I wont stay even after 7 years. Their are no driving opportunities for me anytime soon I am so far down in seniority lol

Makes no sense, why would an employer who always provided healthcare for their employees all of a sudden stop and now have to pay a penalty.
They could have dropped insurance without penalty before the bill

Because it gives them cover. They want their people covered and will be able to cover them far cheaper. Obamacare covers most, they pay the penalty plus a smalll premium on a supplemental policy and pocket 75% of what they had been paying. Nothing socialist about Obamacare.

Theres got to be more to that story then whats being let out. My guess, its New York man. That women waiting 24 hours most likely didnt have coverage.

Oh yea, I totally said it was Obamas fault, which never happened. You lefties, sure know how to lie, cheat and stretch whats being said. I'll give you that much.

When you go to an ER, it doesn't matter whether you have coverage or not. Why do you think health care costs have soared so high? But I agree there may be more to the story... just as I agree there's more to the story you linked to.

Are you not amused?
Negotiatons have already started on our upcoming contract . No headway has been made in either direction other than the company's sucessful message to most of us that they do not intend on keeping business as usual for us . Healthcare , pensions , retiree healthcare , wages , harassment and simple issues like honoring seniorty are all being targeted by U.P.S.'s labor division . To humble yourself and presume all is well , and these issues are being discussed in our favor is insane . #1 , love or hate Obama and his visions with mandated healthcare for all has come back to haunt the Teamsters . We , and I use that term very carefully have put all our eggs in his basket just because We are supposed to as Teamsters . What was the first item the cmpany chose to throw a fastball on , that would be healthcare . They know that in the end they will get what they ask for . Oh yea we might get some mediocre wage increases , sme more 22.3 combo jobs , maybe even an entry level wage increase , but they will get their foot in the door on our healthcare , even if its a small foothold . Given the fact that in 2017 , when Obamacare will no longer be waivered for Teamsters , and will be fully treated as taxable income for us , why would they afford us premium healthcare ? . Wages , for starting positions at U.P.S. will see a slight increase , simply because with part-time employees being defaulted to Obamacare , the company will be saving money , money that can be diverted to the entry level wage , even if its a 1$ increase which sounds ggod to high school students . The reality is the company is off the hook for premium healthcare for new employees , one less benefit they will have to provide . All I am saying is if we as Teamsters have any unity left , any voice that can be heard by our votes within the rank and file , that we should stand and fight now . It wont be easy , it was not easy last time but if we give an inch they will take a mile . For those of you that think it will not happen , that the company and the union will iron our contract out with strong langauge that favors us , think again . Be prepared , save now and take the measures that need to be taken . Me , I am cancelling my vacations to the beach , my families weekend splurges on things that are unnecasary (movies, dining out etc. etc ) because in the end , even if we do get a contract in a timely manner , I want to be prepared for my familys sake . I was a part of the last strike , I didnt have a family at that time . Be responsible , be heard be pro-active and pay attention , think ahead . Its nobody elses fault for you not being unprepared .

Paragraphs are good thins, I cant even read this.

Heeh, easy. One of the greatest reasons why our health coverage is so damn high is because the majority never pay for it. It is why unions got into the health care subject at all. To make sure those peoples would get paid overall.

The blessing of the older age of what people are living, it adds up.

Heh, you jackasses keep on with your delusisons.

My question to you libs, are you the ones that are drunk?

Strength through joy
As I recall many of the contracts ( back then contracts only ran 1-3 yrs ) during the 80's included no raises, everything was shifted to pay for Health & Pensions.
Oh, sometimes they threw in a signing bonus ; $1000 for full & $500 for p/t { actually since tax wise it was considered a gift and subject to the 56% rate } .
They even gave out signing bonuses to freeze the p/t starting rate at $8.50 , back when I started if you lasted a year you made top rate , the only difference was that some made $.10 more any hour for sorting .
So when my new BA told me about what was going on , I just gave him a blank look back.
Nothing new here people , just the same old stuff being repeated again .

Good idea to be prepared, I went through the strike in the 90's . But my friends if there is a work stoppage that lasts anywhere close to Christmas you will either be looking for work somewhere else or working for UPS with out a union contract.

You're the delusional one. Health insurance isn't free -- somebody pays for it. 30 years ago, companies like Walmart began realizing the cost savings by limiting/eliminating health insurance. The problem is, when people without insurance -- or with poor insurance -- have a need for health care, they still use it. And guess who pays for it? People with good insurance, which means their rates go up. Which causes their employers to either pay more or pass the difference onto the employee. And often the employee can't afford to pay for it, so they go without it. Which means when they seek care, UPS is paying for it. It's an endless cycle. It's not ObamaCare that's driving up health care rates -- it's the expectation that we should empower our employers to take care of our health. Guess what? UPS doesn't give a damn about your health.

We earn our health care, yet pay a 10$ fee. Its better then paying 70 a month which we will hardly use.

Thats a joke, health care isnt going up because of Obama care, to laugh. A lot of docters are going into early retirement over it, a lot of research and development of new medicine and treatment centers have come to a complete halt. They see the writting on the wall, theres nothing good to come in this new health care. Over all, the rise in health care is in direct cause of O-care, because they figure in the fines given by it so their prices go up. I've never seen this type of thing before, they will punish the hell out of people with health care. And they will punish those companies who provide it.

If not O-care, then way all the talk about it this year when it will come into effect? I find it funny that everyone boldly defends this, and yet cant put two and two together. Its what you guys do, turn a blind eye to the truth of things. You live in a world of denial, thats fine, lie to yourself and others if that makes you feel better.

I wish the lefties would just leave the people alone. To each and every year its something new " they " think is best for you, not you yourself. Attack Christmas, health care, guns, food, global warming and on and on. It never seems to end.

As for that women in the video. Waiting 24 hours for a doctor? I know an ER wait can be long, but not that long. I had a good think about it and came to a overall factor in this womens death. There are people who have no coverage and yet they go to the ER all the time for anything. They dont pay their bill or are obvious problems within hospitals. This couldve been something alike those lines. Once they know you arnt going to pay, they really dont want anything to do with you. I believe they saw her falling to the ground as an act to get attention. In New York, everything is possible. Just a thought...

Turn off Fox News, ORLY!?!, because nothing you wrote is factual. Health care costs have been soaring beyond inflation for over 30 years, with some of the biggest gains occurring during a Republican-controlled Administration & Congress. As I've mentioned, the biggest contribution is the increasing burden of the uninsured / underinsured, and the domino effect it has on the system. Contrary to what you may believe, UPS DOES NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOU. UPS is in business to earn profits, and Wall Street is increasingly concerned with UPS's high labor costs in relative to its competitors. It has absolutely nothing to do with ObamaCare, or anything else other than the fact that UPS is concerned about future profits; it's paying $10,000 more per year for each employee covered by a family plan than it was two contracts ago. As long as the rest of America continues to bend over & accept low/mediocre compensation for the work they perform, while smiling at their CEO earning $200 MILLION (as the CEO of Home Depot did several years ago), UPSers are screwed.
