Change in Annual Hazmat Certification

In what I assume is another cost saving measure, it appears that UPS has changed the way we are completing our annual hazmat training. Unlike the one hour class in past years, our center has taken the 20 question test, divided it in to 5 question blocks, and we are reviewing these during the PCM. We started today and will finish up on Friday. We are not starting early and were not asked to put this time in to the DIAD under training.

Have any of you gone through this in you centers and, if so, what is your opinion on this change?

Our Hazmat training was completed in January, we started an hour early in groups of 10.

Weekly Safety Zone has been cut in half, now it’s 5 minutes.

Online testing was changed to on paper testing, Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 completed on consecutive days.

Pretty much the same here. We do something weekly, with start times staggered T/W/Th. What we do varies week to week...............DOK and safety.

The main question is do they still give you all the answers to the test?

It's even better nowadays Rod. You don't even have to take the test anymore. All you have to do is show up and sit around BS'ing. About a week before an audit, they'll send you a message and ask if you attended the class. If you say yes, they'll fill out the test for you.

Again, not kidding.

Oh this younger generation of UPSers are getting so soft! Back when men were men we actually had to stay awake and write down the answers as they read them to us:wink2:

The new Hazmat film is better than the old one. The old one was made in the mid 90's so I had seen it at least 10 times, it had the annoying little Italian guy who kept cracking bad jokes and was under the mistaken impression that he was funny. Combine that with the cheesy music, and after the 9th or 10th viewing it was getting to be like fingernails on a blackboard.
