Craziest Hiring Process Ever

Good evening UPSers, and thank you for taking interest in my story. I've been looking up forum after forum and it seems that everyone has either had no troubles at all with their hiring process, or some troubles but I still haven't read anything even remotely as bad as what I've been experiencing up to now. Today is June 10th, 2015 and believe it or not, I had my interview on Feburary 20th 2015. Obviously, anyone would think ok you didn't get the job stupid, but I did. They gave me the tour along with 14 other people, they sent 10 of them home and kept 4, me included. They said I had an appointment about a week from that date, and when I showed up it was to get all my information for the background check. My position is cargo handler, so it's a very intense background check that they said could take up to a month. It took two months, at that point I thought they had found something that was a mistake, but they Finally called me and said I had to go to the orientation for the airport to get my access card. I went to that, got my access card, they said I had to bring it back to them so they can keep it in file until I officially started, so I did and then they told me I had to go do the drug test. I went, that was another two weeks before they called me and said I had to go online to fill out the tax papers and accept all their policies. That was also two weeks ago, and now I'm in complete limbo growing crazier and crazier by the day. I'm convinced that I'm hired, but this insane process has led me to believe that something isn't right, what do ya'll think?

My son interviewed on a Thursday and started working the next Monday. They are making you jump through a lot of hoops for a minimum wage PT job. I would look for something better.

PT pays $11/hr. FT driver starts at $18.75/hr. Planning on flying the plane one day?

Why are you talking as if those are the only jobs available? Cause I see openings for a lot of office jobs and its union, even if I stay as cargo handler, after a year it goes at 15 an hour, then 18 then 20 then 22 where it caps.

Are you sure we are talking about UPS package handler? I don't think I ever saw all that in the contract.

It's not package handler, it's cargo handler in the airport. I don't load the trucks, I load the planes. That's the title they gave me, it might also be called the air ramp.
UPS also employs PT cargo handlers at $10 or $11/hr. Not much room for advancement unless you consider PT sup a promotion. Sure you are going to be working for UPS or is this a contracted out job?

No, I'm pretty sure it's UPS they talked to me about the benefits and the union and all that stuff. They said that when I get seniority, I can apply for other positions I found one the other day of safety compliance specialist so it's jobs like that that I could apply for and climb up the ladder.

Sounds like UPS. I just can't believe it is taking 4 months to fill the position. It is most likely a PT permanent spot as FT would be starting at a higher rate. Best of luck.
