Detroit Bankrupt

A reflection of this country. Sad

No left verses right.

The whole US is headed down this path.

We need adults and those with REAL wisdom in charge, yet we have Rhinos, and far left people elected in charge.

China owns us. They just bought the biggest Pork producers in the US.
Chinese get OK to buy American pork producer - NBC News.com

We are in debt to them and others.

Foreign governments hold about 46 percent of all U.S. debt held by the public.

Blame the Right as TOS and others do, blame the left as right side posters do, we are in deep trouble.

I am troubled by our posture. Yet many are blinded to this, and blame the left and right.

We need to elect adults, and those with reason and pupose to turn this around.

But there are none anymore to elect.

The majotity of the US voters of both sides, are blind to what is coming, and vote by sound bytes, and what
is in it for me, not the future of the US.

Great post Wkmac.

WHERE DO YOU GET "BOTH PARTIES AGREED TO NAFTA?"

Secondly, DADDY, bush signed the agreement with canada and mexico during HIS term and it went to the presidents desk when Clinton took office. CLinton facing an override in the republican controlled congress had no choice but to sign the bill with a few corrections.

Voting record on nafta..

Senate

U.S. Senate: Legislation & Records Home > Votes > Roll Call Vote

The votes went down party lines for the most part. A republican bill stacked against the american worker.

NAFTA destroyed millions of good jobs in the USA. These jobs will NEVER return to the USA.

history:

NAFTA was signed by President George H.W. Bush, Mexican President Salinas, and Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in 1992. It was ratified by the legislatures of the three countries in 1993. The U.S. House of Representatives approved it by 234 to 200 on November 17, 1993. The U.S. Senate approved it by 60 to 38 on November 20, three days later. NAFTA was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on December 8, 1993 and entered force January 1, 1994. Although it was signed by President Bush, it was a priority of President Clinton's, and its passage is considered one of his first successes. ***************

Maybe if you understood what NAFTA was, who created it, why was it designed and who stood to benefit from it, then you would understand how Detroit and many other cities are failing today.

Everything takes time. Profits over people and the country. The slow death of american industry was "inked" away by DADDY BUSH.

In this video, president clinton states at the 2 minute mark, the changes to the agreement that were discussed with labor and labor leaders. These were the only changes he could make to nafta as the bill which was written by the republicans was going to pass with or without cooperation from Clinton.

The only person at the time who had it right, was Ross Perot who said this about NAFTA.

"During its planning stages, NAFTA was heavily criticized by Reform Party presidential candidate Ross Perot, who argued that if NAFTA was passed, Americans would hear a "giant sucking sound" of American companies fleeing the United States for Mexico, where employees would work for less pay and without benefits. The pact, which took effect on January 1, 1994, created the world's largest free-trade zone."

Perot was absolutely correct. Thats exactly what happened. American companies fled the US for mexico in record numbers and left millions of americans on unemployment and food stamps.

This is the result of pure capitalism at best.

"NAFTA means jobs. American jobs, and good-paying American jobs. If I didn't believe that, I wouldn't support this agreement."
-Bill Clinton

Senate vote "yes" 34 Republican 27 Democratic

Not taking much effort

Just because traditional state/topdown institutions are becoming unsustainable doesn't mean people have to die with them. Hats off to some of the Occupy offshoots in creating ground up solutions to light the streets and at a very competitive price.

Occupiers and Occupy offshoots across the country are solving pressing problems facing our communities.

In Highland Park, Michigan - in metropolitan Detroit - a new start-up non-profit called Soulardarity is creating community-owned, cooperatively-run solar streetlights in residential neighborhoods left dark by the city and the monopoly utility company, DTE.

Soon, for $5/year, residents will be able to light their streets independently of their corrupt local government and big business. In the future, the streetlights can act as bases for modular add-ons like wireless mesh networks, digital phone booths, charging stations, and more.

Call it putting the power back in the hands of the people!
