Do the insides of the package cars ever get cleaned?

Those on rural areas get a lot of dust and dirt in the back of the cars. That dirt lays on the shelves and when pkgs start sliding around, that dirt becomes like sandpaper. Then you spend time in the back breathing in and ingesting aluminum dust. Ingesting aluminum (in any form) is hazardous to your health. There are studies that show links to Alzheimers and many other maladies.

I'm not a fanatic when it comes to healthy eating and such, but it is a concern.

I'm sure a good many (if not all) of us has had some exposure and ,in turn, some detrement to our health.

Oh, and did I mention that..There are studies that show links to Alzheimers and many other maladies.

Same here at P'Dale Scratch! Been that way for so long that I can't actually remember car wash people actually performing a car wash. If I want it clean I wash it myself and during the spring during pollen season I will break off my route (my pickups are right next to the hub) and hose out the inside of the truck and shelves before I fill up with pickups. Also carry Windex and paper towels but I've been so slammed lately that I've neglected the cab. Maybe tomorrow will be a lighter day...and maybe monkeys might fly out of my butt!
Hi Jack,
Sounds like something you could do in the a.m. before start time if you get to work early ... just don't touch the packages. :wink2:

Just train those flying butt monkeys of yours to clean the windows. Problem solved. :wink2:

It used to be that if there were spills or the interior was so bad that it could be considered a hazard you could write up Interior/package area of car needs to be cleaned on the daily condition report on the truck, once you did that about 4 times you would find that it did finally get washed out (like mentioned above usually on a Friday).

Used to be if we were late we would wash our own trucks and when I did my own I would blast out the cab with the high powered sprayer and get it pretty clean and it used to be that if your truck was not getting washed you would get chewed out because you were the final fallback to see that it was washed at least twice a week (except in the dry summer it would fall to once a week).

I keep my own pc clean. The car wash guys just don't have the time to do it. I wash the inside windows, spray the outside quickly, and keep the trash to a minimum in the back. It makes a world of difference.

To be honest, I'd do that if it weren't so dark in the hub. Oh and I NEVER touch packages off the clock! :wink2:

Great idea! Even better idea would be to train the flying butt monkeys (great name for a punk rock band!) to deliver packages. That way I could really clean the truck and even have time to maybe take a nap during the day.

You could always file a grievance . . .

As part of the mighty, mighty Carwash, I keep the cars on my line relatively clean inside and out. But it's not ease fighting against The System to get it done.
Thanks for being honest. The departure from washing the trucks daily has tarnished our image. And driver uniform appearance has fallen by the wayside. When was the last time you saw a UPS driver with a highly polished shoe? Or with the standard UPS baseball cap? Rogue hats are commonplace. Success in business requires attention to detail. We seem to be losing our way.

In my building the Carwash Operation was "thrown under the bus" about a decade ago. I've got treadmarks all over. :knockedout:

We use to pay UPSers to clean the package cars, which doubled as very noticeable traveling advertisements to the customers and the general public. Most people will never get inside our buildings to observe the overall operation. All they see is the driver and his vehicle. If they see a nice driver in a clean car, they assume the entire company is a quality operation.

Now, UPS feels it must pay astronomical sums to an outside advertizing agency to counteract the bad impressions the package cars make.

I saw one get cleaned inside once. Followed a package car through the carwash with my tractor and the back doors of the pc were open. I guess it was to clean the inside :-)

The inside of my package car gets washed out every time it rains. Lately that has been just about every day. Seems like the good old days.
