A strike, whether designed by the company or authorized by the membership is suicide. You have a company now run completely by wall street investors types who's goal is the bottom line share price and dividend payout. The largest teamster employer in the country, they believe they have done enough negotiating 11 billion in pension funding to bailout improperly managed pension funds and massive losses of teamster jobs in the now defunct trucking industry. And how about ups buying and then unionizing another 12000 overnight express employees and running no profit from the company after a 200 million dollar investment ? And then agreeing to and then filling 60 % of another 22000 inside fulltime jobs. Take a good look around. If you believe your getting screwed, vote strike and watch your many jobs go away. Just like the auto workers, aircraft workers, teachers and police, firemen and amt's.etc etc. Dont forget the 125,000 post office workers. Lets not forget the 5500 at the non union fedex. You think the glass is half full ? How much more do you think ups is going to pay ? Its not about big bad ups anymore. Where have you been for the past 7 years. The majority of the revenue stream for ups with its profits is offshore. Ups america ( you know american teamsters ) is barely breaking even. That is not how it was 10 years ago. If you think ups cares about a strike, you might want to think again. They may be counting on it.

You have some good points but they are drowned out by the inaccuracies in red above.

The majority of the revenue is still heavily weighted towards the US market.
The Ground US market is UPS's least profitable segment of their portfolio but it is still making 3% profit (close to that).
UPS makes much of it's profits from US based premium services provided by Teamster employees which is possible due to the stop density of US Ground.
International and Logistical services are the fastest growing and most profitable of the UPS segments and where UPS is putting emphasis in growth.
UPS is staving off FedEx due to technology increases and the overall high-performance of the teamster workforce but that turnip is just about totally drained.

As for the comment in blue ... probably too soon for that but in ten years or twenty, possibly true.

Heavily weighted toward the us market because of how the costs are expense d. If you analyzed the cost associated with the average hourly fulltime american wage and other costs associated with ups america there is no comparison. The density of the volume is the only thing offsetting the continued rise in cost to pay for the operations. Been there and continue to see the trending. Its not pretty. AND ITS BY DESIGN

Being totally debt free even if I am the breadwinner we will fine even if we were on strike a very long time. If this was 10 years ago when we still had mortgage and debt i would be stressing a bit. My wife is a master with budgeting and saving. It may drive me nuts on occasion but you can't beat the security.
