Do you remember when

Safe driving awards were OK til many guys would not report minor accidents because they wanted their flashlights, clocks, etc. Resulting of course (depending on who you were) discharges. I for one am glad the safety awards were dropped. The only motivation I need is the paycheck, but for those who dont know what time it is or cant see where theyre going, just spend 2 or 3 minutes a day and say a little prayer to keep you safe. Over the course of a month, you have a fine watch and a hell of a flashlight. Do it it for a whole year and poof, a pool table. (which would what take 20 to 25 yrs to get)

Never ceases to amaze me how drivers still needs that affirmation from a company that could give 2 ****z about them.

I disagree. everyone like a pat on the back once in awhile. a gift showing appreciation goes a long way in building goodwill and loyalty.

Remember: A pat on the back is only a few inches away from a kick in the ass.

I would suggest one of these:

Funny thing , as an air driver (1986-2010 ) I never received any awards .
Given the fact that I was averaging 100 miles @ day & working 6 days a week .

I remember the annual softball tournament that we use to have pitting the centers in North New England against one another. Seemed like the guys from Bangor Maine won every year too.

We used to have them too .
Out by Worcester ,then they moved them south .
If you recall back in the 80's , UPS gave out some red t-shirts that said on the front " We Care ". Well another co-worker and I added to the backs of the our shirts " I don't give a _hit " & " I don't give a _uck " .
We were wearing them at the annual softball game , we were asked to keep the score , so we sat between the mgt players on the field & their wives behind us .
We were invited back for drinks at the hotel , but on the condition that we changed shirts .

I was handed a 25 year safe driving award by a 7 year "safety committee member", She said,"Oh yeah it think this is yours" and walked away. I took it and tossed it in the trash can from across the room" two points"!--Long gone are the days of a division manager handing out those things and saying thank you. Frankly I would rather not get one than to be handed one by a person that I have more safety time in the BATHROOM than they have with the company!

I remember when we all worked together to get the job done. People actually took on tasks that required them to do something new, difficult or without certainty of the outcome. Now, no one steps up because we're doing the work that 3 - 5 people did previously (for less BTW). Oh, did I mention that I don't give a **** anymore?

Sounds like when I got my 30 year service plaque almost 6 months after the fact and the Specialist told me, "here you go, we found this in the office when we were cleaning up" and no BrownMonster, it's not made up either. Nor did any management person in my function say as much as a thank you or congrats for the service milestone.

But on my 30th anniversary, a manager in another function who appreciated what I did actually took me out to eat on his own nickle. That meant more to me than any damn plaque.

I remember when you came in and believed that I worked for a company that thought things through. I thought I worked for a company that had some form of intelligence behind its decisions. I remember coming in when a center manager was allowed to run a center and not just filter down whatever garbage he was given from the higher morons. I also remember when all the managers that had a clue left the company at about the same time.
