Europe Levies Big Fines for Freight Cartel - New York Times

The participants in a freight cartel were caught not so much red-handed as green-fingered.

Seeking to conceal their price-fixing activities, employees from freight companies like United Parcel Service and Kuehne & Nagel used nicknames like Head Planter, Gardener, Cat Weasel and Horticulturalist, the European Commission said Wednesday.

U.P.S., based in the United States and involved in three of the cartels, was fined 9.8 million euros

Deutsche Post’s DHL Global Forwarding also was part of the cartel but was the whistle blower that reported the cartel to EU regulators and it therefore will not be fined.

What kind of BS is this? They did the dirt, profited from it, yet because they blew the whistle they don't get fined?[/FONT]
