First off, I care because they are supporting a habit that they don't need to support on money that is taken from me and others at the point of a gun. I think it is safe to say that these government assistance programs were not meant to be a way of life, but as a helping hand to someone in a time of need. The rub comes in when the systems themselves are designed to keep the people in them dependent on the system rather than giving them an incentive to forge their own path through life, and I'm betting that losing the right to vote, regular and random drug tests, as well as asset insepections will make government assistance as uncomfortable as it can be so that it doesn't become a way for people to sustain themselves on indefinitely. I fully understand that stuff happens and there are cases where people simply cannot help themselves and or need help from others, but I don't think living on the goodwill of others is an acceptable way to live. Allow me to put it to you another way. Say my friend lost his job, and asked me to help maybe make his car, house, bike payment while he searches for another job. I would probably help them so long as I saw they were trying to improve their situation. Now lets say that same friend lost his job because he was caught drinking while at said job. I would be much less inkleined to help them and would probably in fact let them loose what is important to them so that they can feel a consequence for their action. I will not support someone else's bad decisions.
