Ground Driver, Am I Being Underpaid?

Thanks for the idiotic free market Libertarian "lesson". IF you weren't a greedy, opportunistic follower of Fred (read scumbag liar), you'd pay a living wage. If you're a contractor, you're certainly getting your fair share.

Just quit if you aren't happy. There must be something better out there.

Hello everyone, I've been driving for a FedEx Ground contractor for several months now and recently got moved to a better route and am unsure if I'm being compensated fairly for the bigger route.

Originally I was on a mixed HD/Ground route that ran under Ground, I drove about 150 miles, averaged 70-100 stops and maybe 90-150 packages and a couple pick ups every now and then. I was working on average about 40 hours a week and was paid $100 a day or $500 a week, assuming no weather or holidays.

I've now been put on a totally ground route, in a bigger truck driving 60 to 70 miles a day and averaging 70-90 stops and anywhere from 250 to 300 something packages, and about 10 scheduled pickups, usually picking up at least 100-200 or so packages. So I end up working about 50 hours a week if not a little more, and am being paid $120 a day, or $600 a week now.

Now I am unsure how the contractors are paid, so I dont know if this is actually a fair amount, but $100 extra a week over my old route seems a little cheap for the amount of extra work involved. Sorry if I went on a little long here, I'm just hoping someone with a little more experience here can tell me if $600 a week seems low for the kind of route I am running now. Thanks in advance.

I was offered a Ground route last year and it paid $850 a week. It was a little more than I was making at Express, but it didn't come with insurance and I couldn't get overtime. I declined it because during peak season I worked 60+ hours a week and could make it up in overtime.

I think ground is a good way to get experience driving, but in the long run it's not worth putting up with the BS.

Wow...you told me. Is RALD short for Rude Ass Lame :censored2:? Just wondering...
LOL - I can see that you are one of the habitual complainers and whiners who has a hard time with reality. Most successful people who use the "idiotic libertarian free market" recognize that complaining does nothing to improve ANYTHING let alone their circumstances. So keep on complaining, I am sure that you will be the one who finally discovers how complaining will improve your life and you can capitalize on it by writing a self help book for all the other whiners and losers who haven't figured it out yet - oh wait, you believe in the socialist/marxist economy - so you will impart freely of your knowledge - but wait (again), what am I thinking, you already are spewing your worthless complaining for all to read. I am sure that thousands have benefited from your knowledge, if not, at least they have benefited from your grade school, name calling wit and humor.

There is an ignore function if you don't like reading what he says.

It has nothing to do with what he says. I just don't understand the mentality of someone who sticks around doing something they hate. It was merely a suggestion or some advice - the same advice I give my kids - change your attitude or change your circumstances. I get that sometimes we have to deal with tough work situations (at all levels and industries), but I wouldn't stick around if I hated something. There has to be something better if I hate it so much that I tell everyone to run, or so I would think. So, just some advice that seems to have struck a nerve... and I did it without resorting to name calling...

At $379 take home he's not working 50 hours a week probably less than 40.
I Work 30 hours a week and get paid for 35 (17hrs a week is PT 35hrs a week is FT, that's the minimum no mater what you work). Express is way better than Ground. Paying $3000.00 a year for my school now.
Just getting to a stable route and not having managers treat you like a swing driver is the trick.

Blah, blah. Did you ever stop to think that a lot of former Kool-Aid drinkers have gone straight after going to these forums? You call it complaing. I call it education.
