How does this new contract effect part timers?

Johnny Paycheck

Speak softly and carry a big stick.
For the amount of time that I put into this place (~5.5 hours per night) the level of compensation is just fine.

Good luck finding any PT job with wages in the double digits anywhere in the Midwest. I've worked in a lot of :censored2:ty places and this is distinctly the least :censored2:ty. That federal minimum wage Obama is pushing will not pass. UPS is a good low-commitment job for students. About 10/12 of my belt are enrolled in the local community college.

I did see a lot of locals talk about "closing the wage gap between full and part time" and have no clue how they would ever do that.

Annoy a liberal today. Hit them with facts.
The starting wage for part timers will only increase when demand exceeds supply. The hubs are always staffed at the current wage.
That is not exactly true.

Last peak season, hardly any good decent workers applied to be helpers. So UPS in their infinite wisdom, went around to all the drug rehab facilities in So Cal to find workers.

That's right, meth heads, crack fiends, angel dusters, and heroin addicts became our helpers.

All so they wouldn't have to pay more than $8.50 an hour for our helpers.
