Having a good audit on file will save you from problems, do the job right and there should never be any issues regarding claims. The biggest threat to your paycheck IMO involves the pick-up and delivery of hi-valu pkgs, have seen many drivers thru the years get burned by not following procedures with these packages. Had 2 guys burned for pkgs in excess of $10000 picked-up from the same shipper ( I'm smelling fraud ) but as they did not get a member of management, or as we now have an auditor to sign-off packages they were paying for years on them. Take the time to cover your tail on these people, as they will hold you responsible and it will cost you $$$.
