So very proud of my fellow upsers for helping out Lorrie's family, and especially little Matthew! YouKnow..,Sleeve, TimeStudy. great work all of you, and anyone else I may have omitted, I know alot of us are doing things privately. Over, excellent idea on that paypal account, can we really make this happen? Quick aside, I was able to help out a young man in the Friends Of Jacklyn program, last fall. This program allows college sports teams to "adopt" an ill youngster. Little did I know, or realize at the time, how much this act would actually help me. I hope you all get the same benefit from your kind deeds. You're all very special people. Thank you to Lorrie for keeping us involved, all too often people "hit and run" around here once they get their answer or help. Much support, and many prayers go out to Matthew for continued good news, before, during and after his surgery.

I have no idea how to set up a paypal account, but i will definately pitch in if someone can get it going. It would be an awesome present for a very desreving child.

If you do online banking, in todays world, you have the option just to e-mail funds right off your banking website.

How much is it, including shipping? I am able to put $400.00 towards the truck.

I would be willing to put the money up for the purchase.

Hi out there to all my UPS friends,
Sorry it has taken me so long to update you all on our Matthew. His surgery was last Wednesday, June 1st, as planned. He had a wonderful time with his family and friends for the entire week before surgery (fishing, playing T-ball, going to a Paw Socks game in Boston, the zoo, and many other fun things). He was scared about the surgery, but stayed brave. His surgery lasted 8 very long hours. It took the neurosurgeon 4 hours just to get to the tumor in the center of his brain. She said it is an agressive cancer, because the tumor had grown faster than she thought, in just the past 3 weeks. It was the size of a bing cherry, in his little 4 year old brain. She had to extend the scar from the first brain surgery he had when he was 8 months old. At first she didn't think she would be able to get the entire tumor, because it was located so very close to major blood vessels. But because it is so agressive, she pushed to remove as much as she could. The post-op MRI did not show any obvious tumor left. But if you know cancer, it is very sneaky. It hides so well. Even the most minute shadow of a cancer cell that is virtually invisable, that is left behind, easily multiplies and grows to take over again. So Matthew will still receive radiation to his brain and spine for 6 weeks. He also will take chemotherapy by mouth daily for a year. Three years ago he had surgery, massive doses of IV chemotherapy and 3 stem cell rescues. But since the cancer came back after all of that, they have to try something else this time. The year long chemo will help to prevent it from returning, hopefully. Anyway, back to his current recovery. After that very long time under anesthesia, he came out of the recovery room, breathing on his own. He didn't even need the ventilator (breathing machine) for one day. He surprised the neurosurgeon by moving both arms and legs on command. At first his eyes were deviated over to the extreme left. And he was really favoring his left side. But less than 24 hours later, his eyes were back to midline. Since favoring the left side over the right, but physical therapy is working with him on that. He was out of the pediatric intensive care after 1 1/2 days. He is on the pediatric oncology floor at Hasbro Children's Hospital. He still is having some strong headaches that he needs medication for (but who wouldn't), and the medicine makes him want to sleep more than usual. So he is not in the mood to get up with physical therapy and walk or play with any toys to improve his strength. He has clearly said to more than one person "leave me alone" and "nooooo". Bless his heart, this is so not like his usual self. (no wonder) He loves to socialize. He always is asking anyone to play with him or read to him or "look at this". His big blue eyes always sparkle with mischief. It's hard to see him this way. But each day, he seems to be stronger. He did give a little scare last night, because his heart rate suddenly got quite low and his pupils were not equal. These could be signs of brain swelling and could mean a dangerous situation. Sent him for a "stat" CT scan of his head, and everything seemed to look allright. They are watching him closely. We are told he could be discharged as early as the end of next week, if everything goes well. I am currently back in Northern Maine, because I have to work. But my co-workers are helping as much as they can to cover any time I need to take off to go back to Providence. I promise to continue to keep you all updated. Again, for anyone who would like to see a picture of him or read his facebook page, just type in Matthew Beaudry. And also, I want you all to know, that he is one proud little man for the little UPS trucks that have been sent to him already. He has them displayed for all to see. And the UPS cap that was sent to him is hung on the wall, next to his beloved Boston Red Sox Caps. I will try to post the picture his mother took of him and his local UPS delivery guy. It was great.
Thank you all, again and again. I have bragged to many, many people about how generous you are, and how good you have been to my boy.

Brain surgery is tough, my brother-in-law had a grapefruit size tumor removed 25years ago. It disabled him. It came back and he had to have it removed again a couple of weeks ago. They got most of it, its non-cancerous. Its been hard around my house, my wife and her mother take turns caring for him 24 hours a day. It has really been a true blessing to me the way some of my unknown fellow co-workers have stepped up and tried to help you and your grandson. I wish Mathew the best, keep the faith.

I totally agree with Scratch; Things like this is what I'm most proud about being associated with UPS.
To Mathew: May God lead you to better days and may all the glory go to Him.

Thank you everyone, over and over and over. I truely feel all the love out there for a little boy you don't even know. Awesome!! I also want you to know that when someone sends me a private message, I do respond to their message privately in return. It may take a little time, especially if I am working the night shift or down at the hosptital with my family. But I promise to return all messages sent to me. I appreciate you all, and feel all the prayers in my heart. Matthew did have a better night last night. No problems with heart rate or pupil sizes. Slept pretty good too. Still not to appreciative of physical therapy, or the nurses and doctors, but it's no wonder. He is such a social child with a fun spirit, I am sure as soon as he feels better, he will be back to "hanging with the guys" and "flirting with the girls" as he always has done. Thanks everyone.

Great news Lorrie, and a relief as well. All of us in brown wish him a speedy recovery. No child deserves to go through this so he will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Thanks for the update,Im sure I wasnt the only one concerned when we hadnt heard anything. God bless.

Thanks johnoutdoors, we think he is quite adorable.....and I guess I've got to say.....everyone else seems to think so too. To anyone out there who would like to see his pictures and/or the updates that his mommy puts out on his facebook page, you can find him by typing in Matthew Beaudry. The page is specific for his updates, so it is open to the public. I was talking to my daughter earlier tonight, and she said someone from UPS had put well wishes on his page. (must have been you, johnoutdoors). She was tickled. I've been telling her, and the rest of our extended family, just how I happened to "fall into this forum" looking for a UPS truck for Matthew, and how everyone on here has "adopted" him almost as their own. I could hear the tears in her voice when she said "it's too much" "all these people pulling for Matthew and they don't even know him". I told her that I've felt the kindness of the people following this thread, and it helps to make my heart feel lighter, when I feel like crying. Or maybe it's knowing all the extra prayers that are being said for Matthew, just because God guided me to this site. We've never had something like this happen to us. There is so much negativity in the world, and believe me, as many of you already know, when someone you love has something like this happen.....it's very hard to look at the positive. But it is there, in other ways. I've always liked my UPS person to deliver my packages....but I've got to tell ya, one of these days, I may just grab him and hug him out of the blue. He doesn't know about Matthew. We live in northern Maine and Matthew lives in southern Mass. So imagine his surprise....guess I'd have to clue him in first. He'd think the "49 yr old lady" on his route has flipped her wig. But it feels good to have you all care so much. So anyway...Matthew has been doing quite well, with his recovery so far. He is still in the hospital on the pediatric oncology floor. He is getting stronger every day. The issue with his heart beating a little too slow and his pupils being unequal resolved quickly without any further problem. He still needs physical therapy to get him back to his pre-op condition and help his brain recovery. He is going to the O.R. Wednesday (later today) to get his porta-cath implanted. He is getting this special I.V. site put into his chest even though he is not expected to get I.V. chemotherapy. It will be so they can draw blood frequently without torturing him for his tiny veins. And to give I.V. fluids if he was to need them at times. He will keep this in for approximately a year. My daughter says if everything continues to go well, he may go home by the weekend. They are having a special meeting with all the doctors on Thursday to discuss his prognosis and the course of radiation and oral chemo he will get. Again sorry for such a long note, I will close for now and update again soon. I'm at work, and my supper break is done.
My heart to all. Lorrie
