Anywhere from a few months to more than 10 years. It's possible that one building near you may have a significantly shorter wait than another; if you proceed with the application process, discuss this with HR -- they'll be able to point you in the right direction. Just for some perspective... in my building, the persons receiving the driving bids have about 12 years PT seniority. However, there's a massive number of drivers eligible for retirement (30 years) within the next five years -- thus it's probably that somebody being hired in today will only have to wait 5 years to get into driving. I don't know wait times in SoCal, but if I were to bet, I'd bet on longer side (10+years). Also consider that once hired, there's opportunities for driving as seasonal and coverage. These positions aren't popular among PTers (most of whom work two jobs), and thus we have guys hired within the past year filling these positions... they'll drive an equivalent of 8 months or more out of the year but at the ~$16/hour rate. There's also opportunities for PT air driving, including Saturdays, that quickly progress into the $20/hour range while you await FT.
