When voting, get personal. Which candidate will personally take more of my money?? Whoever that is, WILL NOT get my vote!!

Pretty much my philosophy too. I've lost the hope of a government run like a business spending my money wisely. Therefore the only thing left is to find a candidate that will take less of my money to waste.

An excellent explanation on taxes and the difference between Republicans
and Democrats.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many
others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and
among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to
support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a
feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had
participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that
her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he
thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes
on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed
objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she
indicated so to her father. He responded by asking ho w she was doing in
school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0
GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she
was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which
left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She
didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college
friends because she spent all her time studying.

Here's an explanation of the difference ......for example the bailing out of our two biggest gov't backed mortgage lenders...Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac doomsday scenario.
Besides this Rep Adm taking our hard earn tax money and spending it on this diseaster in Iraq and other future warrantless conflicts (actually burrowing) it's always considering bailling out giant business corperations slowly sinking in the red who chose to make or be the victim of boneheads descions. Yet if gov't backing does step in why should our tax dollars continue to support to pay the fatcat executives extraodinary amounts of money saleries without conditions? Keep the rich, rich at any cost and continue stifling good paying jobs by satisfying profit margins for shareholders even at the expense of cutting or shipping working class jobs and services overseas. Continuation of tax breaks for the wealthy while recklessly borrowing money we can't just can't pay back without raising taxes and then blaming it on the Democrats to restore fiscal responsibility. Another difference is Republican reliance on our next Two Generations to pay back our debt Republican leadership selflishly inherited to them without any say to our young people. Unfortunately, as soon as Johnny comes out of Mom's vagina the gov't slaps an IOU bracelet on his tiny wrist for $30,000. Of course the bracelet is "red" for Republican.
:wink2:" Welcome to the Republican party." (spoken gently)

I like your example Moreluck.Very nice,I will use that with my daughter who through college at a liberal arts school in N.C. leaned way left thanks to the leftwing professors. But that's anpther story..,,My only other comment is that is the way the rep. party is supposed to be.Although I have been let down by Bushanomics, all I see from the Left is far worse with no plan that includes Less government...So both parties still employ way too much government control.I believe the Dems would lead us right into socialism which I want no part in..Liberterians have very good ideas.I would like to see them stronger on national security....Gasman

Mcain wants to get rid of our retirements folks. We have to vote democrat. No choice here if you would like to retire at 65! McCain will raise the AGE! Obama will make you pay if you make over 250k yearly. The little guy will never collect if McCain raises the AGE again! We have to think about this we are Truck Drivers not business owners! He will also get rid of Federal Taxes for older workers if you make under 50k. It would be nice not having to pay federal taxes on your measly pension! McCain will also STAND up to UNIONS folks! Endorse the Democratic party or you will be sorry!

Obama hits McCain on Social Security

NEWARK, N.J. - Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama criticized Republican John McCain's approach to Social Security on Saturday, saying it would undermine the government program aimed mainly at retirees.
Obama said McCain's campaign has suggested trimming Social Security benefits and raising the eligibility age, according to prepared remarks of his speech to a gathering of the AARP. Obama was addressing the group via satellite.
McCain has not specifically embraced such plans. But by saying "everything is on the table" in discussing changes to Social Security, he has opened himself to such criticisms from Democrats.
Obama also said McCain wants to privatize a portion of Social Security. McCain has praised the notion of letting younger workers place a portion of their Social Security taxes into a package that is invested and follows them to retirement, but he has not made it a campaign promise.
All workers pay Social Security payroll taxes on the first $102,000 of their annual income. The money pays for benefits for current retirees and for other government programs. Analysts say the program will begin running short of funds in a few decades if it is not changed.
Obama cited his proposals to place a new Social Security payroll tax on incomes above $250,000 and to eliminate federal income taxes for older people making less than $50,000 a year. He also said he would "allow the government to negotiate with drug companies to lower costs for seniors, and we'll allow reimportation of drugs from other countries and ensure their safety."
The Wall Street Journal reported in March that McCain's top aides were "considering cost-of-living adjustment cuts and raising the retirement age as part of their Social Security plan." McCain has not endorsed or rejected those ideas.
McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said the Republican nominee "has always promised to fiercely protect Social Security benefits."

THE SKY IS FALLING!

THE SKY IS FALLING!

I've heard this so much I look forward to the day they finally go ahead and do it. Maybe then America will wake up to the welfare/warfare state and be done with it!

Social Security is a scam and has been from day one. The sooner it dies it's death the better IMO and not but a few years away myself from being able to draw from it so I'm more than happy to give up my own self interests here. I've planned for it anyway.

Raise the age or do whatever it takes to implode it but I just want to see it gone completely to save my children and grandchildren from being burdened by this statist ponsi scheme!

BTW: McCain and Obama both suk to high heaven!!!!!!

I agree Tie. Social Security is a scared cow for both parties so I just don't see much happening and now with Boomers, of which I am a proud one, hit the retirement bricks and make up a huge voting block, the last thing the political class want to do is alienate that voting block.

I think they've fed that dog so much he's about ready to stop eating altogether.

Look, Jon Stewart had a bit of fun with McCain's acceptance speech when he played portions and then played Bush 2000' speech and they were word for word. My guess is every campaign re-cycles stuff from previous campaigns as they really have nothing new so in the case of Obama, he just pulled out the play book of let's see, Kerry? No! Maybe Gore? Nope not it. Ah it was Clinton 1? Nope. Hmmmmm! When did a republican really speak out against interventionism with conviction? Hmmm! Oh I know, they pulled out the Truman years in regards to Sen. Robert Taft but the republicans opposed Taft's non-intervention ideas too. Oh wait, the democrats got this old dog from the republicans! Opps! I'm sorry, that's demonrats and republicons!
:wink2:

Seriously Tie,

Good and valid point!

Which indirectly brings up a valid point that has to be considered in this election the affect of the media on this race. This one is proving interesting because for once the liberal media has a candidate they love and they are slanting heavily in favor of Obama. Your example of Jon Stewarts routine on McCains speech is just another of many examples. I'm sure someone as creative as Jon could do some terrific stuff mocking Obama but for some reason the desire or creativity does not seem to be intense when it comes time to do so.

Until the convention McCains only hope at acquiring media coverage was often to piss off Obama enough where Obama would actually mention his opponent by name. :happy-very:

So along with Palin adding some excitement what will also be interesting to see is whether the media can actually now organize its efforts and actually get their candidate elected. It could set an interesting precedence for the future. An imbalance of power for sure after all the poor republicans only have the fox network willing to give a balanced report on the news.

We are sadly headed down a road where the media will now become the fourth arm in the seperation of powers. If it controls the ability to get the executive and legislative leaders elected then it runs the country.

Then take the conservatives dissasociation with the election since they do not have a true conservative running.

The libertarians still talk the the good talk but also appear to be aligning theirselves with the liberal democrats , god knows for what reason.

And the trend with all appears to be the glorious day someday when we can all enjoy a liberal society where we are forced to watch the gays have sex in the streets and can get locked up for life if we object. :happy-very:

I do not sleep easy these days thinking of obama in the white house and pelosi running congress.

I'll probably have to turn gay or engage in bestiality just to get a tax write off. :happy-very:

meanwhile my fine scholared friends on this board rant on interventionism or on the ills of our foriegn policies or on some other intellectual criticism that stimulates your minds while the stench of the toilet we are soon to be flushed down gets stronger.

More empty rhetoric from a rock star presidential candidate. When Obama starts trying to scare the old folks about their social security then you know his campaign has turned to desperation. Paid slave you have some politically astute posters here. Your second grade theatrics is losing you any and all credibility. You're going to have to step up your game to their level if you want to score any points.
