Is this a viable alternative to a union?

My point is, that just because a real Union is a lost cause under present conditions doesn't mean there is no other option out there that could bring some sort of negotiating pressure to bear on the company. The structure I propose appears attractive to hourlies, and less threatening to management. AND, it could be a jumping-off point to something bigger and better. Baby steps are better than plopping down on your wet diaper and crying, no?
You would never get enough stock to sway the power that be. Fred and higher ups probably control enough shares to coumteract any movement otherwise

Mr. Fred :Perhaps this may tell you more. Company bylaws reguires a board member to leave at age 72, Fred S is 71. So what do they do? Simply raise the retirement age to 75. Keep in mind Fred S personally holds only 6.3 % of the stock The rest and the bulk of his stock is owned by his holding company. What you might have agreater chance of seeing in the future is a proxy war in an effort to get Smith off the board. Bill Ackman of Pershing Capital the hedge fund did a little saber rattling a couple of years ago driven by his outright contempt for the Ground/ Express disconnect.

Fred needs to be gone before any real progress can be made. In fact, the whole upper management team needs to go away. Perhaps they can all go on an "Amelia Earhart" expedition together as a team-building exercise and then just disappear forever.

Just hoping.

Mr. Fedex. Fred S is not the spawn of Stan. Instead he lives across the street from Satan. Ihear they are going out drinking together some night this week.

That's what the guys around the neighborhood call Satan "Stan" for short. He's only Satan
when he's conducting official business. Sorry for the confusion. P.S. He plays a really mean fiddle. He e ven impressed Charley Daniels and that takes quite a bit to do that.

I've always thought mobilizing the swing drivers to band together would be the easiest way to get the company's attention. It's only 15% of the staff or whatever, but without them, no sick coverage, no vacation coverage, no overflow coverage, etc. Most of the time they are the ones that get abused the most so it seems like they would be the most receptive to it too.

If you went down to Georgia you'd fiddle around too!

A few years ago, Matt Thornton was on frontline and asking couriers "to step up to the plate and become swing drivers." He thought he was really gonna get a lot of people interested when he offered "one days training." He proved beyond a shadow of a doubt just how clueless he is. If there was any doubt to begin with.
