Just telling it like it is
It's gotten worse since Amazon became such a dominant shipper. Nothing I hate more than slugging those 100+ lb rolled up mattresses or put-together pieces of furniture up buildings with no elevators and multiple flights of stairs. Prior to Amazon people wouldn't order that stuff online due to the real cost of shipping it.
Leave stuff like that at the bottom of the stairs if you can't get help. Ain't worth injuring yourself over someone's stupid furniture. Just tag their door as to where they can find it. If the package needs a signature, they'd better have help on hand the next day. They ordered it, not you.

@oldngray, when did UPS start accepting over 70's?
Mid 1990's I think. I don't remember the exact year for sure. It was just after a new contract was ratified and UPS claimed it wasn't a bargaining issue. There were short wildcat strikes because of that. UPS made a lot of promises that they later denied ever saying to get the strikes to end.

Its not just about lifting but about what you do with your arms and legs 150 times a day and multiply that by 30 years for me. Opening and closing the door to your vehicle, using your right arm to pull the seat belt every time you turn on and off your vehicle. Those things add up and before you know it you are hearing and feeling cracking in your shoulder and upper arm. Same as your knees, every time you step up and out of your vehicle you are damaging your knees. Anyone wear their pp holder on the side of your hip? Well guess what you are screwing up your back. A doctor told me not to wear it at all. Its too much for your back. How long do I have to file for workmans comp? I think its state by state but in Texas I believe its 30 days after you have left the company. Anybody know? THANK YOU FRED!!!

I'm no lawyer, but what I read says 30 days after an incident or the deadline starts when you should have known the issue was work related. You could probably argue that you thought the issues would clear up after retirement and they haven't. I'd call a lawyer on Tuesday and probably report to FedEx as soon as possible that you're having work related pains. You'll need a lawyer for sure and they'll know better than any of us schmucks on the internet.

...which is why no one should stay at Ground for over 5 years.

Well ground drivers should last longer, they don't do many of the repetitive motions Express Drivers do. They don't close bulk head doors, they don't shut off the truck, they drive up most driveways, they only walk halfway to the door(and drop or throw the package), so really in theory a ground driver should last twice as long as an express driver, and they get paid half as much... truly an Excellent value.

I don't lift anything over 75lbs by myself. If the sta won't send someone out to meet me at the stop, the customer had better help or they're not getting their delivery.

I don't load my truck, but got to my truck and there was a pretty heavy tool chest Friday. Scanned it, didn't move it, AB said 147 lb. Got to the dock, they off loaded it with a reach truck that had a scale, it read 275 lb. Nice. I never touched it. felt sorry for the guy who loads my truck, though!

Gee, you'd think they would have caught that at the hub and redirected it to heavy weight. After all, didn't they eliminate the rexing contests because they now have the ability to weigh everything that moves through our system, at the hubs?

Be careful with your bodies, don't let your manager push you and end up with an injury. I retired and found out I have a herniated disc c5 and c6. Also severe tendinitis and Bursitis in both shoulders, which is excruciating pain. Been recovering for 2 months. This could take 6 months to heal. Please be careful, I don't wish this on anyone. The pain starts off with a sensation in your shoulders like your arms are being pulled out of the sockets. Be safe!

Smith Barney can't be serious. Park a Ground truck beside an Express truck and compare what's in the Ground to the Express. Truck bumpers, backhoe buckets, disasembled living room suites, cement mixers. Then look at how much of that knd of stuff is in the X truck. Over the last few years X has been the alternative hauler for that stuff because UPS won't send a guy out to help get that stolen motor freight off their trucks. They don't want that stuff but X will take all they can get. Broken springs, frames. center pins and broken human bodies costs them nothing.I speak from experience. I have to have both hip joints replaced. Fortunately OVR wants to get me into another line of work after replacement.

I got to the point that by the end of a day (typically 10 hours) I had difficulty even walking, the pain in my knees and hips was so bad. Finally tried a Chiropractor and discovered the problem was my back, from compensating for the pain. Been going for treatments for four months now, finally beginning to feel human again. Interestingly enough, our insurance has designated chiropractors as specialists now, and limited access to them. People company my ass.

Amazing eh? I have to go to my doctor and pay for a doctors note in order for our benefits to cover 50% of massage therapy. I lift boxes all day, 5 days a week! Why would you stipulate that we need a doctors note in order to get a massage???

I'd see an employment lawyer about all of the above. Anybody knows that was from 30 years of FedEx. Hopefully you may be entitled to a settlement.

Other than that, hope all is well with you and your retirement.

I don't need any doctor's note where I go for my massages - just a penicillin shot.
