Union Politics - Local 952 Leadership Keeping Their Hands Clean Of H-hall Name

As locals and volunteers collect signatures for the slate they support and many members believe that Hoffa and Hall have the biggest fight of their life coming up, it's no secret that Local 952 leadership has chosen to steer clear from the Hoffa-Hall name. What they don't realize is by doing this, they have also left three California leaders names (Rick M, Ron H, and Rome A.) in the dust as well. Local 952 leadership is secretly playing both sides. This time around they are telling some that they are staying neutral and telling others that they do support Hoffa. Is it believed that they are talking to Sylvester? Not at all. Does this mean that no signatures are being collected? Guaranteed a few will pop up but in the past Local 952 leadership has always been vocal about their beliefs and what slate they support to best run our union (or the slate that will most likely turn a blind eye to PDK's horrible leadership) but they have not been seen trying to collect signatures at any of the yards this time. This choice has most likely came from PDK and UPS Business agent GM who know, amid the up coming delegate and local election, that they have no room to upset UPS members by asking them to support Hoffa-Hall after the contract problems they had. They know that may cost them votes in the elections. What is sad, is that they can care less about the other 6,000+ members that Local 952 represents. The leadership has no huevos and will keep hiding in the dark. Make no mistake though, these will be the people in front of your yard in a couple of months asking you to send them to Vegas to the Teamster Convention because they believe that they are the best choice to represent you there. If they don't have enough courage to stand up for what they believe in at this time when it is most important, what make you think they will have enough courage to make the best choice on your behalf at the convention. Cowards!!!

Funny thing is not one shop-steward in Laguna got the text message the Anaheim stewards got from Grant M. He texted them asking if they were willing to petition for Hoffa and only the Tustin Center stewards agreed. One of those stewards was a delegate at the last convention and voted according to how Patrick K and Grant M told him too.

When Richard G held his Local 396 fundraiser last year and both Tim S and Fred Z showed up to endorse him, PK showed up to chit-chat with both of them. Like you said, he's playing both sides of the fence but Hoffa has found out and he's raining on his parade because 952 is on the brink of being placed into trusteeship. Local 848 is not supporting Hoffa, they've made that clear and even helped the Teamsters United slate with 300 signatures.

The reformers are running a slate with the name "The Dump Hoffa Slate" to avoid any confusion. So the 1500 to 2000 members that will vote in the delegate election will at least know which group stands against Hoffa.

I wonder what the Irishman's slate name will be? Haha

I don't know what the stewards of the local were asked to do but it's a fact that the leaders and their business agents never set up a signature drive at any of the yards. A steward asked his business agent if signatures were going to be collected ang his agent said it wasn't necessary because enough people were already working on that.

That's going to make two slates then. I can see you guys still haven't learned.

I agree, These reformers just don't get it! They really think that just because they "feel" there is no support for Hoffa they think that not merging the slates will be successful.
You guys just don't learn from past failures!

That "same name" is tainted. It's been used too many times and people know that it's the same tired players that do not get anything accomplished because of personality issues. If your going to run a successful slate, change the name..

This is the first I've heard of two delegate slates running against Patrick K. The reformers have made it clear from day one that they were running a delegate slate and that they are supporting the Teamsters United Slate.

Where's the other delegate slate coming out of? Who's heading it? Why haven't they made contact with Edgar, D or Brown?

The only two slates that used the "Dump Hoffa Slate" name five years ago beat the pro-Hoffa delegates. There was another slate that was made up of half Sandy and half Gegare supporters that used the name "Anybody but Hoffa Slate" and also won.

"Dump Hoffa" is not tainted...it will work. Especially among UPSers.

D can't run.. Edgar is tainted in the eyes of UPS'rs so the only one that might have a great chance of running a slate is JBrown

Paragraphs are your friend.

I don't think "Hoffa and Hall have the biggest fight of their life coming up" because Teamsters United isn't even a legitimate slate. Sylvester and the leaders of the hold out locals that voted down their supplements missed a huge opportunity to capitalize on the anti-Hall sentiment by not even having an accredited candidate for General Secretary Treasurer on their slate.

I've made my opinion on the current administration known on this site before but its hard to take an anti-Hoffa/Hall slate seriously when they're not even running a candidate against Hall out the gate. It's also important to realize that the IBT isn't "only UPS" -- the IBT has approximately 1.2 million members and UPS employs 260,000.
