    UPS, FedEx and Deutsche Post’s DHL, the trio of big integrated logistics companies, pride themselves on their vast global reach and indispensable role in facilitating international trade. But UPS’s warning served as the latest reminder that their fortunes remain closely tied to that of the world’s largest economy. More than 45 per cent of the world’s shipments are tied to American companies, says John Mullen, chief executive of DHL Express. “The greatest worry for us is the US,” he says. “The general US economic situation is of particular concern.”
