Really? The great religions of the world warn of the perils of obtaining riches. That it's extremely difficult to enter heaven as a rich man. However some of the greatest men in the Bible were extraordinarily wealthy. It's all in the attitude. And, by the way, today's capitalism isn't discussed at all as there were no stock markets other than the kind of stock on 4 legs.
yes really. If you look into what the religions of the world say about usury, you will see what webtoday call capitalism. C.S. Lewis found it difficult to square the economic systems of the west with religious teachings.

Modern Capitalism pretty much has it's roots in Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations". There were plenty of other isms before then. C.S. Lewis was having to reconcile his beliefs against the West's Mercantilism and Colonialism as well as Capitalism. But modern Capitalism as we know it didn't exist in Biblical times, and the Bible talks of making investments too. Making money isn't an evil thing, hurting others in the process is.

usury, or making interest off capital is what Lewis wrestled with and religions condemned.

Usury is excessive interest, not reasonable interest. Putting people in debtors prisons over debts they couldn't hope to pay back. That was a common practice in England, and Australia was colonized with convicts, many of whom were debtors.
