Minimum wage general strike

WESLA

It is what it is
Raising the minimum wage increases unemployment.

if you can't live off of minimum wage then it's because you're either stupid or make bad decisions.

No one promised you you'd be able to support your 3 kids without a college education.

Choices have consequences.

Man, you must've had really great parents that provided you with really great opportunity. Because with the comment "if you can't live off of minimum wage then it's because you're either stupid or make bad decisions." Tells me that you've never had to live on a budget making minimum wage.

Alberta's minumum wages just went up as today to $9.95 hr. It still remains the lowest in the country.
It's a huge discussion here today, because it remains too low, and people are right - the higher paid people need to subsidize these low paying workers, because in most cases, they do end up getting some government support while working 40 hrs per week !
But most companies, including Mc D's pay more anyways, because of the labour shortage here.
Mc D's starting wage is $11/hr for days, and $12/hr for night shifts. - Yet not enough to survive !

The bill as written only covers full time employees.
The obvious result of this bill becoming law is that Walmart and other employers will simply not have full-time employees unless they are well above the cutoff wage.
This bill needs to cover that gaping hole before being passed.
If not, it will go down as one of the stupidest laws ever passed ... which for California is saying a lot.

Of course, if you get rid of all the socialist government programs, none of this is a problem.

I can agree that the bill is ridiculous.
Are you referring to government assistance programs as being socialist?
How about the government bridge the gap between those that need it and those that take advantage of it, and while they are at it, let them hold these corporations more accountable for their actions.

those mexicans arent covered under minimum wage laws because they are working under the table. Higher minimum wage laws would only push legitimate californian workers out of a job to be replaced by more mexicans working illegally (under the table)

Legitimate companies such as Walmart, Mc D's, KFC, etc, don't allow illegals to work.

I can't stop laughing

I just recently had to pay $10 for a new social insurance card (SS card), because the last company requested one, even though I offered income tax papers, passport, birth certificate and more !
They have been dubbed before - having 2 employees using the same SIN number !
Never again !

The main Socialist programs are Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and now portions of AHA as well a variety of other government hand out programs.
I think that corporation laws leave much to be desired and that officers of corporations should be held more accountable for actions of the company.

I do question whether reduction in taxes should be considered a handout.
I don't see the tax credit for my investment in energy-saving appliances and upgrades a couple years ago as a handout.
If a tax break given to a company is more than offset by an increase in taxes in people moving in and taxes on their purchases, then that is a business decision by the government.

I don't think Walmart fits in that category anymore BTW.
I think Caterpillar, BMW, Hyundai moving a manufacturing plant into a state/city does fit into that category.
