No... I consider YOU to be a blithering idiot... Wrong... you choose to put up with it. There are jobs out there - one has to actively look and not expect job offers to arrive in the mail unexpectedly. For someone in your situation (single, no dependents, no strong ties to where you are currently located, experience in moving around), you have the ability to find other employment and relocate - IF YOU REALLY WANTED. Others with spouses that are working outside the home - and cannot relocate easily, children, a home - that has lost value and cannot be sold without taking a loss right now, family ties in the area which they are currently residing, cannot easily relocate. You CHOOSE not to expend the effort to find something better and relocate - so you engage in endless exercises rationalizing your current circumstances - thus justifying (to yourself) your current situation and the fact that you are "a victim" of Express and are helpless to do anything to change your circumstances. I've constantly said people need to evaluate their personal circumstances and look for better employment if they believe that they are truly worth more than Express is compensating them. You have chosen not to do that. That speaks volumes for your perceptions regarding your TRUE capabilities. You've called yourself a fool for working for Express in this forum. I'm just restating the obvious. You've had close to 15 years this time around - and you're at less than half progression in wage scale. Top out started out taking about 18 months back in the 80s, then gradually increased to 4, 6, 12, 17 years. Now, there is no top out for anyone that isn't within a few percentage points of the top. You've admitted that you were "fooled" into believing the crap coming out of your hiring managers mouths (and other managers mouths). Who's to blame for that? Tens of thousands of other Couriers know better - you don't. So Express was "a good deal" all the way up till late 2007? You are a fool. By 2000, wage progression had slowed to a crawl. Fred had secured his RLA status in 1997 and started the take-aways back then. From the employee viewpoint, most didn't recognize it at that time since it was a very insidious process of slowly taking away pay progression and benefits. The real take-away happened when the pension was gutted for no reason other than to pad Fred's pockets even more. Express was a bad deal by the early 2000's, and a raw deal by 2008. Unions don't only exist to increase wages, they exist to insure that once increased wages are negotiated that work isn't OUTSOURCED. A union contract would have a clause that would prohibit outsourcing of services that can be provided with organized labor. Vantexan is representative of many Couriers (not 10's of thousands, just a few thousand) that have a line of thought that Express only needs to be "motivated" to pay fairly - a union isn't necessary in order to justifying staying. He's gotten on this forum and more or less stated : "If Express would only top me out, then I wouldn't want a union". Well, what's to motivate Express to top out employees, or to stop the take aways, or from outsourcing volume in the future - without a union contract in place? There is no motivation for Express to change its behavior, it has paid tens of millions of dollars to obtain and preserve its RLA status (money that could've been paid in compensation if they so choose), in order to PREVENT having to pay out even more in compensation to a unionized workforce. The IBT is faced with the tremendous obstacle the RLA presents in attempting to organize a company's labor - then having people like vantexan who want to use the threat of unionization against their employer (but would prefer their employer to "blink" without actually unionizing) - why do you think the IBT won't play along with this game? Vantexan has stated himself that he would support a union drive, BUT if Express were to relent in giving a bump in wages, he'd turn on the union and support the very employer he has talked trash about. Well genius, what would make you think that once you got your "bump" that the take-aways wouldn't continue at an even faster rate a year later? (Oh that's right, you plan on leaving in 3 years yourself....) You twist and spin positions in an attempt to justify your situation of CHOICE. If you don't get a pay raise you want, you'd support a union and talk trash about your employer. If your employer were to give you a pay raise you want, you'll be a loyal useful idiot and tell a potential union to take a hike. So Fred can buy you off with a 10-15% pay raise with no contract in place... You refuse the "SFA hamburger" (because you can't be bought off with a trinket), but you'll take an additional $2.00/hr to be a good drone... Sounds an awful lot like taking "30 pieces of silver" to me.... One piece just isn't enough it seems...
