How much do you want to bet? Most of you have trouble putting sentences together. I bet you can't find a job making a drivers pay and benefits anywhere else. I bet you would have trouble getting a job anywhere period. What would your resume say?

Name: Joe Union
Qualifications: I can take orders real well
Education: Some high school
Experience: I loaded trucks and now I'm a Package Delivery Specialist

I bet they would be beating down your door.

Yes all of UPS employees are supervised to some extent. It's how we keep things in line. The only difference is you folk can't supervise yourself yet anyone else. The comment is only stupid because you can't understand it. Your bodies are broken down because your lazy and you aren't in shape. I have come in contact with plenty of drivers that aren't broken down. They are the hard working good employees. The lazy out of shape drivers are the ones always complaining about their bodies.

Hopefully your blood pressure medication kicked in during or after this post.

No It's not green grocer!
Amen.

P.S. I don't know if it was you that talked about the "job performance" displays in centers ( sporh, lunches, back events etc etc) for drivers and preloaders (misloads), but the lead driver steward in our center got upset when he saw the grievance we put forth to take that information down. THe grievance was recinded, very well presented too.

I keep heering about grievances retracted by the stewards. That is not allowed, the only person that can retract a grievance is the grievant. If someone other than the grievant does so, tell them you did not agree to that and to reinstate it. If they refuse take it to the next level. If you get no satisfaction , take it all the way to the NLRB, it's an easy win.

Isn't soliciting greivances a violation of the contract? So you want to promote honoring the contract by violating it? This thread is an example of why you people need to be supervised, why you people have to pay someone to represent you, and why most of you couldn't get a job anywhere else. Sometimes you union folk just make it too easy.

Ok mr know it all, show me where it is stated in any contract that I cannot solicit a grievance. Not only is it a protected right of a Union steward. It is my responsibility to tell people when their rights have been violated and that they should grieve it. The NLRB has ruled many times protecting Stewards rights to solicit grievances.

How many of these jobs offer a comparable wage, pension and health/welfare benefit?

Then why are you still working at UPS ? Just wondering.

See above.

Socks could have worded it better but he was spot on. There are very few of us, lower level management included, who would be able to find a job which offers a comparable wage, pension and health/welfare benefit. Those of us who do have college degrees that have not seen the inside of a classroom for a while (1989 for me) would have to go back to get back up to speed.

Think about it objectively for a minute. We make more than most of the customers that we deliver to while performing a job which only requires a driver's license. There is no way that most of us would be able to walk in to a job, command a salary of $80-100K, with free healthcare and a monthly pension of $3-5K. Not going to happen.

I'd also add that I know folks who did manage to finish college in spite of the recession (unlike myself), who: get paid less, have next to zero health care, and no pension match (2.5% at UPS?).

Agree 100%. But, I and most drivers could find a job pretty quickly.

Pension match? The only match UPS offers is a 401k match for management.

My ex-wife is an RN. She went to school for 2 1/2 years and has had continuing education over the years to keep up with changes within the profession. She has a 403b instead of a pension, makes about the same hourly wage as we do and also does not pay for healthcare. She saves lives--I deliver packges.

Most of us would have a severe culture shock if we were to ever lose our jobs with any hopes of replacing it with a similar position.

That is what I was alluding to; in retrospect, irrelevant because of the context (hourlies).

edit: Also, a poor choice of words (pension) on my part.

edit x2: You know what, just forget that part of what I said.

Same is true of 95% of UPS management ...

I disagree with what SOCKS is saying, personally. Although UPS due to the Teamsters, offers (here) just about the best health and dental deal around. As far as pay goes, no comparison I can and do make more outside of UPS.
