KABUL — NATO launched an airstrike on two fuel tankers hijacked by Taliban militants in northern Afghanistan, sparking a huge blast that killed up to 90 people, including 40 civilians, Afghan officials said Friday.
Militants seized the two trucks, which were delivering fuel to NATO forces, around midnight near the village of Omar Khel in Kunduz province, and the alliance launched an airstrike when the Taliban fighters stopped the vehicles at a river crossing, Police Chief Gulam Mohyuddin said.
One police official estimated at least 90 people were killed, and that 40 of them were civilians, including some who were receiving fuel being distributed by militants at the crossing. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of sensitivity over the issue of civilian deaths in the Afghan conflict.
Kunduz Gov. Mohammad Omar of Kunduz also reported 90 dead, but gave no breakdown.
NATO confirmed that there was an airstrike in Kunduz overnight but gave no details. A spokesman said the coalition was investigating the incident.
Omar said the dead included the Taliban commander for several Kunduz districts, Abdur Rahman, several other senior Taliban and four Chechen fighters.
"Abudur Rahman is a very dangerous man," the governor said. "I hope that the death of Abdur Rahman will have a positive effect on Kunduz city."
Officials said that at least 12 people were hospitalized.
Omar said villagers heard jets before the tankers exploded, but that some of them thought the tankers had been hit by rocket-propelled grenades. He said most of the bodies were badly burned.
The hijackings are a symptom of the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan. Why dont' we hear outrage about US military personel and civilian deaths from the left? Maybe Barry should also be brought up for war crimes. Oh wait, that's is only for republicans.

I think another poster clearly expressed the hypocracy behind the opposition to Bush and Iraq.

Thank-you. We on the left have never been "anti-war". We have been anti-Bush, anti-Republican justification for a needless war. Especially when that justificat ion changed by the week and any attempts to bring attention to that fact brought the crazy folk out of the Republican party to call us anti-American. Big, big difference.

But during the Bush years we had excessive spending and runaway gov't growth when the good republican brethren sat totally silent to only now voice opposition when they have achieved minority status and Da Brother and da boyz run the show so I guess the hypocracy runs both ways.

As General Stan McChrystal plans his march on Washington to demand more troops in Afghanistan the antiwar movement lies on the sidewalk, as inert and forlorn as a homeless person in the rain at a street corner, too dejected even to hold up a sign. This is at a time that as Mark Ames has just pointed out, “Obama is doubling down in Afghanistan with more troops deployed now than the Soviets ever had.” Yes, add up US troops and contractors and you get a US invasion of Afghanistan bigger than the Soviet force at its peak.
Is there any sign of life in a movement that marshaled hundreds of thousands to march in protest against war in Iraq? Ah, but those were the Bush years. Now we have a Democrat in the White House.

True, he doesn’t seem a bit like Lyndon Johnson, but the way he’s headed on Afghanistan, Barack Obama is threatened with a quagmire that could bog down his presidency. LBJ also had a progressive agenda in mind, beginning with his war on poverty, but it was soon overwhelmed by the cost and divisiveness engendered by a meaningless, and seemingly endless, war in Vietnam.
Meaningless is the right term for the Afghanistan war, too, because our bloody attempt to conquer this foreign land has nothing to do with its stated purpose of enhancing our national security. Just as the government of Vietnam was never a puppet of Communist China or the Soviet Union, the Taliban is not a surrogate for al-Qaida. Involved in both instances was an American intrusion into a civil war whose passions and parameters we never fully grasped and could not control militarily.

Obama’s Meaningless War

Well at least a couple of voices on the so-called left aren't hypocrites!

Maybe if you watched the news, these 2 tankers got stuck in the road... Nato knew they were hijacked by the taliban.

They got the message no civilans near by (deserted road).

What they didn't know.
That many came to get free fuel (gasoline), because the Taliban offered it, so the weight in the tankers could be reduced, and maybe get out.

And thats what happened, according to my news story on TV.

Airstrike, and innocent poeple got killed , because they wanted free gas.

Sh.t happens.
It wasn't Hiroshima.
But, yes, doesn't look good, and was never attendend to kill the innocent.

But, thats another story... who and how can you tell innocent from Taliban ?
And thats why this war will never be won !
They got to solve it themselves. Thats the only way.

or it was a plot to kill all the Taliban.
make it look like an easy target, sucker them in and then blow it up.
Then blame it on them, smoking & gasoline don't mix.

Sometimes business has to resort to eminent domain abuse to clear out the locals in order to establish it's business model and benefit it's shadowy partner in the State. Why have to kottle the local Pashtuns when you can blanket label them Taliban using an earlier CONstruct and kill them on sight? How does killing innocent men, women and children for this

make you any different than this

I guess according to you every country on earth is socialist.
Thats why you invade the ones that aren't. Like Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan , Vietnam, Korea, Nazi Germany.

klein it's late and you have a rough day ahead tomorrow, so put down that beer & get some sleep.

(From this week, 2005) By Henry Makow Ph.D. University students continue to face a bizarre government campaign to make them homosexuals, part of the Illuminati banker attack on marriage, family and the birthrate.
At the University of Winnipeg, co-eds were invited to participate in a lesbian "Reorientation Week."
They were asked to become "rangers" with the "Lesbian National Parks and Services," the brainchild of local "performing artists" Shauna Dempsey and Lorri Millan. (See Poster)
This is the lesbian equivalent of the university and government hiring two middle-aged males to meet co-eds, go camping and have sex.
The two womyn had a "field office" in the university art gallery, staffed by a university employee in ranger uniform. They took part in pancake breakfasts, barbecues and interviews on campus radio.
"Lesbian Rangers salute and welcome you!" their brochure said. "Here you will encounter new, even life-changing lifestyles and ideas. These may challenge you in uncomfortable ways."
The university art gallery, the Manitoba Arts Council and the Canada Council, sponsored this tasteless attack on heterosexuality to the tune of about $10,000. This doesn't include thousands of taxpayer dollars already expended on their promotional video and "Field Guide" which includes examples of lesbian "flora and fauna."
Their message: "Homosexuality is natural. Question the heterosexual model. Heterosexuality is a social invention."
When I went to university, students learned to question authority. Today, they learn to question their gender.
Does the LNPS actually exist? This is social engineering masquerading as art, propaganda disguised as parody. It is a shock tactic. Eventually the outrageous becomes accepted. Often, what happens in the imagination occurs in reality.
The Lesbian Rangers don't actually work in any parks. But the artists claim to have hundreds of junior members called "Eager Beavers."
Their video (online) is full of such double entendres and sexual innuendo. The two "bush women" leave "no stone or lesbian unturned." It's a "lesbian-eat-lesbian-world." Knots are practiced in various bondage positions. Their website is called www.fingerinthe dyke.ca
Yet, in the video, they fine a heterosexual male $100 for wearing a lewd T-shirt ("Blow me") and intimidate him when he protests. He is reprimanded for "threatening the lesbian environment." Rangers are urged to make "citizens' arrests."
Lesbians are just a few government grants shy of having a paramilitary organization, a cross between the Girl Scouts and Hitler's Brown Shirts. (Hitler's SA was notoriuously homosexual.)
In the video, they "rescue" a straight female from drowning. She is enchanted by her hairy-legged saviors and "sees the world through brand new eyes.

I was not there to make any of those decisions.

The addition of nazi Germany to this list is most odd? Last time I looked that state of germany started something called WWII. Ever hear of it?

Black Sabbath - War Pigs (Live in Paris 1970)

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of deaths construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds, oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of God has sturck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
All right now!
