New DOT Physical?

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.
I see a lot of burly fellas shuffling around the hubs so this should be interesting. It's not just us either, go to any big truck stop and you'll see plenty of 300 pounders hanging around the food court.
But most of those go to doctors that think the dot laws are crap and just pass them.

I know a driver for a beverage delivery company that has had extremely high blood pressure his last 3 physicals. Everytime they just say ok get that checked out.

I suppose our guys could do the same thing? I'm going for my physical at the end of the month so I guess I'll find out 1st hand. I just put my numbers in a BMI calculator and got 31 which is pretty laughable as no one would peg me as being even overweight, much less obese.

I think ups picks doctors that won't just pass us and follows the laws. Think of the lawsuit if a ups driver with high BP passed out behind the wheel and killed someone.

I'm all for personal responsibility and don't believe the company should be held liable. However lawyers follow the greenbacks.

It's based off BMI and BMI is a load of crap. You can have 10% body fat and be obese according to BMI. It accounts for height and weight that's it.

I'm in the middle of the bone structure scale I would say. Even putting me in the large bone scale size though I would have to be 190 lbs to be healthy. To be 190 not only would I need to lose 60 lbs but my body would need to canabalize about 35 lbs of muscle. These ppl are idiots
My BMI suggests I'm overweight though I'm a muscular 5'8 and 175. I think not.

Is this a one time thing or is this going to be every physical going ahead, going to a sleep specialist. No wonder why FedEx dropping part of their workforce off the DOT vehicles. That is a lot of added expense.

For those who went through the sleep testing, who ended up footing the bill for the sleep center as well as the cost of the CPAP machine if one is needed?

I know a driver that was nailed for the sleep study this year. He was able to order a little machine from a company in FL that just required he wear a band around his chest while he slept. Sent it back for analysis and came back negative on the sleep apnea. I agree its a load of bull and glad I didn't have to worry about it at my most recent physical. Pretty soon those who aren't built like an Olympian won't be able to drive professionally at all. Big brother knows best I suppose!
I bet it's all because of some morbidly obese truck driver that probably had sleep apnea and or I just been working too many hours and fell asleep and had a major accident
took this with me to the dot physical ..when the dr got to the part about neck size and such i showed him the printout..he looked at it said ok. passed for 2 more years. and that was my final dot physical .

If that article is correct then why are people that SHOULDN'T be targeted being flagged for sleep apnea?

What about prescribed pain meds, anyone have any kind of issue with that from dot doctors? Lol
Depends on what it is. Opiods will disqualify you. Others that may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery will disqualify you.

It just depends on the drug. Had a driver fired for oxycodone, even though it was prescribed for him by his physician.
