I completely agree w/ you and have fought it hard but at the end of the day where I am there is no backup. Union says work as instructed (even though I said I felt unsafe)and company says follow methods of walking behind car only! No going in front or out the driver side unless in a parking lot or driveway. I dont feel like getting fired and battling it in panel so I just do it. I brought it up in a safety meeting and said its not any safer in most areas Im in cuz when you pull over your usually partially blocking a lane of traffic which eliminates the safety of it(the idea is that you can get completely out of the lanes of traffic) even the supe agreed w/ my point. This method especially affects me and they know it cuz 5yrs ago I had a guy slam into the back of my PC at 35mph and bounce off he hit so hard. He was arrested at the seen trying to stash $10k and Im not sure how much drugs. Also had alot of keys on him(car/house). I happend to be on the porch of my delivery when it happend so I was fine but had I been behind it I would no longer have legs. The collision crushed the front of his car and dented the actual engine and bent my rear bumper completely under the PC. The accident was deemed unavoidable. To me if saftey was so important to them they wouldnt make me cross from behind. Its more of a joke than anything. I just do what Im told (thats what I told my supe in the safety meeting). If somthing happens doing thier methods then its on thier head.
