New UPS chief exec showed leadership at early age - AJC

    D. Scott Davis' mother says she couldn't have predicted that her son would someday run United Parcel Service, but she learned early on to expect big things from him.

"He was the most programmed child I ever saw," said Rose Davis, now 90. As her son grew up in the 1960s in Medford, a small lumber and agricultural town in southwest Oregon, Davis said doctors predicted he would never play sports because of a childhood foot disability. He ended up playing high school football, baseball, basketball and golf, helping lead the football team to a state championship.
