That's not entirely accurate.

The are about 5 Local's in the Central Region that have company insurance.

Mine included.... Much better deal in retirement than Central States.
Thank you for correcting me and making my point that the majority of us controlled by Central States could be in deep dodo.
Are these 5 locals within the confines of Central States?
Or, are you using a generic term when you say Central Region?
This is the exact problem.
There is not a unified retirement plan that applies to all UPSer's nation wide.
Why in the hell is there a different plan for California, another plan for Texas ,another for Florida and then another in New York?
Yes, I know the cost of living varies with locality within the USA, but that could be cost adjusted in a unified plan.
Also, I know that teamster locals are funded by dues and contributions from unrelated enterprises and are thrown into the melting pot of money along with UPS's contribution.
I am not a socialist.
Every week I work, UPS pays $254.00 a week into the new UPS/teamster plan and that money only
goes to me and my fellow UPSer's.
IMHO, that is what it should be nationwide.

Where are you getting the $254.00 a week figure? UPS does fund the new pension plan fully, but not a specific amount per person per week (or per hour or per month.)

The whole idea was for UPS to get away from that kind of formula so it could save a bundle. For example, if a new hire full-timer works for more than four years, but not enough to get 5-year Vesting, UPS contributes nothing on that employee's behalf.

At least that's how I think it works, looking at it from way over here in Massachusetts.

I can't understand why there are so many differences in our contacts. If we stood united, we would have a lot more power.

Directly from the horses mouth that is putting the monies into the fund.
The info is out there, if one takes the time to find it.
One must do due diligence researching and learning the facts
.
If you do not believe me, then try and prove me wrong.
I have the paperwork. You only have questions and doubt.

We already have the power of money, it is the handling of the funds that need correction.
Every seniority driver makes the same hourly wage nationwide, yet, there are multiple retirement plans that UPS has to pay into.
This is the unions fault.
The teamsters represent a conglomeration of workers, from many different companies, and the money given by UPS just goes into the melting pot.

Central States is the sole health provider in retirement and a retiree will have to pay CS for substandard coverage.
Once one retires, UPS is out of the loop.

While one is working at UPS full time, UPS pays about $1,330 a month to provide full coverage,
-(dental, vision, prescriptions, doctor visits, major medical, ect...)-
,
and this will not change under the new contract.
I had plenty of time last year to investigate what is promised by CS, if I retired, and what CS will deliver.
I was appalled at the lack of knowledge, and concern, by the CS representatives.
I also contacted the new UPS/teamster pension plan and was impressed with the professionalism and clear, concise answers the representatives provided.
I wished to retire this year, but the insurance issue convinced me to change my mind.
Trick,
I asked a direct question, to a key person in the UPS/teamster retirement plan, about the "guarantee" to cover the short fall if CS could not meet their "promises" in the next contract.
The exact words spoken to me were,
"That will not be an issue in the next contract, we-(UPS)- will keep the same promise."
I know promises are like a kisses in moonlight, but it was a helluva lot better than the BS I got from CS.

I could have sworn that UPS provides retirement health insurance...I even have the book in front of me--UPS Health and Welfare Package For Retired Employees. (I am in Central States.)

I think people use "Central States" (the Pension Fund) and the "Central Region" (Regional Supplement) interchangeably.

Sounds to me, like you have Company provided insurance.
