Not recognized for 25 years of service

Happened to me when I got my 30 years of service five years ago. They didn''t give me the cake and when I spoke about it to my center manager he mocked me. A few months later I got a msg from the clerk that my plaque was in the office. They didn't even hand it to me at the morning meeting.

I'll have 35 years this fall and they can keep their awards.

Once something is taken away, it doesn't come back.

(see Laws of the Universe / Section 37.3 paragraph 2)
Thats why we filed grievances on it here. It has been a benefit for many many years. I have a letter that was sent to scott davis from a circle of honor driver and the reply that was sent back to him from an hr rep.

As soon as I can figure out how to copy and paste it I will. No time right now but will do so over the weekend.

Nothing personal, the company just doesn't care for us like it used too.
Remember the old Big Ideas, about 1/4 of the magazine was dedicated to your local district. They'd cover everything from a driver getting married, having kids, kids graduating, becoming a full timer, safe driving, YEARS OF SERVICE, etc. And those photos! We had a driver retire a couple of weeks back and she brought a couple Big Ideas in from the '83 and '84 and what a hoot.
But your right Scratch, they don't care anymore.

No recognition for me on 20 years a couple of years ago. My packet was given to me during the sort and load (was driver preload at the time) while I was loading by a clerk supervisor. Just handed to me while I was loading, boy what a joke.
Same thing here, kinda.
I load my own car out of a P6 trailer, for the last 14yrs, as a satellite driver, and I have only gotten my awards in the load.
(Each time they have been opened)
Thank the Lord, I am not the sensitive type.
23yrs in and I have yet to get a handshake and a Thank You.
I need neither.

There is something terribly wrong with this company. The many men and women that have put their lives and backs into this company for so many years and then to be ignored and pushed aside or laughed at is just plain wrong. It is unconscionable and downright rude. UPS has no respect for their employees or for the company as a whole. Money grubbing, self centered bastards, the lot of them. :soapbox: I hope that some day they regret their choices and the direction they have allowed the company to go.

I realize that they stopped with the gifts for Years of Service, Safe Driving and the Circle of Honor Banquet (better that then my benefits), but heck, they didn’t even recognize me for 25 years of service two week ago. I asked my center manager twice and he/she said they would look into it. Never did hear back from them on the subject. The Hell with it! As long as the checks keep coming in.

In my district they do milestone service recognitions on Founder's Day. Congratulations on your 25 years, 8Years2Go!!

Made 30 a few months back. Not a word was ever said. Not a hand shake, not a thank you, Not an atta boy.
When I say nothing I mean NOTHING.
Really makes you feel appreciated.

It is simply amazing to me that a company that has been around this long due to the commitment of its' employees has begun to simply ignore them.

A few posts before, someone said they didn't need a thank you or atta boy to work. But think about it - the 5 or 6 calories it would have taken someone to say "Good Job" would have such an overall positive effect on the employee - and therefore the company. Nobody on high knows this?

UPS is still living off of its' old reputation - It is no longer a desirable place to work. In a few years when the reputation is totally gone, and the Union has helped its new hire brothers by having the benefits start in 2 years and maybe even lower the starting wage, UPS will be in more trouble than any economic downturn could cause.

I am still new to the cafe, but I believe that the non recognition is part of a larger plan. By that I mean UPS does not want 25 and 30 year drivers. They want you to hate your job enough to leave after your prime so they can get the next young guy willing to run through his breaks and do ANYTHING to make those oh so important numbers.

People, look at the grand scale of things. Nationwide, there are Companies given their employees pink slips as a "recognition" of times are tough and your S O L. So lets not take for granted that our Company scaled back because they want to bust our b@lls (they've always been a b@ll buster, even when the economy was good), as long as that check on friday keeps rolling in, who cares about the cheap gifts.
But UPS should honor and respect emplyoees amongst their peers and co-workers for reaching service and saftey milestones, after all, besides the plaque it doesn't cost money accept for the precious l'il time at the end of a PCM it takes to present the award recognition.
That's all we ask for Managers, just a little recognition to boost our ego. I mean who knows better how far a little recognition would help bolster your advancment opportunities than a manager.....

We had a guy reach a level of service (I think it was 25 but I'm not sure) and he was on vacation when the plaque came in. When he came back, someone threw it on the seat of his truck while he was in the back looking in his load. No recognition or anything. Well, this guy is a true smart***** in every since of the word. To get back at the center manager for the lack of recognition, he sent his plaque via certified mail to Mike Eskew at 55 Glenlake along with a letter explaining the way he received it. Wow...there was a huge hailstorm that rained down on our center manager. We had people over from corporate and everything. The guy did get his recognition but in the end it did cost him as the center manager did everything in his power to get back at the driver. Eventually he bid out of our center to a combo route. The guy is a great guy to chat with and I always told him after that happened that he really had some steel cahones to do what he did.

:happy2:At our center, we have a monthly safety recognition day. Coffee and donuts are served. All the driver groups start together and the center manager hands out Safe Driving and then Years of Service awards. They also draw up to 4 names for gift cards - one is awarded for every week of accident and injury free work. (BTW, I get there ASAP so I can scarf up all the good donuts:happy-very:)

B.B. totally O.T., but you mentioned donuts. When I lived east of the Mississippi, all elongated donuts, maple bars and the like ,were cream or custard filled.

West of the Mississippi, these bars are not filled....big disappointment!! Thank goodness we do have custard filled round donuts....like a jelly donut only with custard.

Sorry for the hijack. Hi Jack !!:wink2:

We have a drawing on Thursdays in the unload if the past week was injury free for UPS paraphernalia. I think I have two UPS gym bags...

For someone with 4 years with the company you sure have us figured out. I'm surprised you took the ups job 4 years ago when I'm sure you had so many better options.

Dilli,
It seems you have this feeling of what United Parcel Service was like 10 years ago or more. UPS has not changed that much in the last 4 years...more of the same and fine-tuning.
Are you going by what others say or did you have a close friend or relative that worked for UPS prior to yo coming on board?
Just curious.

My son is a Crew Trainer at a local fast food joint. He was training a new girl he says was catching on pretty quick. I asked him if he tells people if they are doing a good job. He says of course, everyone wants to hear "Good Job". My son will be 16 in June. I guess a brown career is out of the question.

Yes, Hoax, I do have a good friend that has been with the company for 23 yrs. And I have been on here long enough to have read many posts of the many 'old timers'.

My rant has nothing to do with my job. It has everything to do with what is right. It has everything to do with simple respect. Anyone who has been with any company for the amount of time talked about here should be recognized for their work. It is the right thing to do. And that recognition does not have to costs tons of money.

It really is as simple as that. Takes less than 1 second of time, costs absolutely nothing, and 1/2 of all the bitching & moaning would go away.

Then again, anyone who has SUCCESSFULLY managed people knows this as a fact.
