note from center: turn in uniforms tomorrow.....wtf?

yes this has never happened in my four years at ups. my driver gave me a note from our supervisor saying all driver helpers are to turn in theyre uniforms tomorrow. its only the 23!!! they also said that some of us would be called back to work the last week of december, so then they would give us new uniforms if that happened. ok, this doesnt make any sense, why take our uniforms and ultimatley let us all go, then call SOME of us back and give us new uniforms? why not just let us keep the uniforms, and only send notes to those that are not getting called back? i called the center manager but she already went home for the night

im used to being let go on the 3rd. volume is skyrocketed this year and theyre letting half of us go early, wheres the freaking sense in that? my driver said it was bull too, he doesn't want to work an 11 hour day by himself.

Don't kid yourself. You'll be getting back the turned in uniforms. If you're lucky you'll get the same one's you already had.

Despite having this same rule of thumb over at my Center, I have NEVER been made to hand my Uniform in on the 24th. We're just out too late for that to be feasible and even if I did drive over there, NOBODY in Management would even be there to "confirm" that I did in fact hand it back in.

I'm not about to make my Driver wait at the nearest fast food joint while I change into my personal clothes on that last and busiest night either, we're both tired and just want to get home.

Nope, I keep it until they cut me my last check and hand it over then - always and nobody has said a word to me edgewise about this being a problem. I believe they're more concerned about the newbie Helpers they don't know if they can trust, rather than us Seasonal Veterans.

I wouldn't worry about it unless your Driver has explicitly told you today to hand it in to him/her tomorrow. If not, then hold on to it and kick it back to your Helper Coordinator when he/she goes over your Rehire Rating mumbo-jumbo in early January.

However, if somebody calls you demanding it be turned in NOW (at any point tomorrow), you had better hop to it.

The only uniform item that my helper has is a brown pullover jacket, which she wears over a sweatshirt. The uniform pants they issued her were about 4 sizes too big, so they are wadded up on a shelf in back and she has been wearing black jeans instead. When we are done tomorrow, she will hand me the brown pullover and get her check and call it good.

A lot of the helpers around here dont even have a uniform at all, or they just wear a jacket or vest or baseball hat that their driver loaned to them.

There has been a huge purchase, $32,000 worth, of United Parcel Service (UPS) uniforms on eBay over the last 30 days. This could represent a serious threat as bogus drivers(terrorists) can drop off anything to anyone with deadly consequences! If you have ANY questions when a UPS driver appears at your door they should be able to furnish VALID I.D.

Additionally, if someone in a UPS uniform comes to make a drop off or pick up, make absolutely sure they are driving a UPS truck. UPS doesn't make deliveries or pickups in anything, except a company vehicle. If you have a problem, call your local law enforcement agency right away!
