Obamacare's effect on Teamsters 2013 contract

that was the point I was making.

I'm not sure that was the point you were making...

Socialism is an economic system characterized by social ownership of the means of production and cooperative management of the economy...

Y'all are calling Obama a socialist...he's most definitely Capitalism at it's finest!

Keep throwing the 'Socialist' and 'Socialism' argument around, y'all just look like fools.

Just saying...

I was at contract negotiations about 20 years before anybody heard of Obama and the company was looking to bail on healthcare then. Now you might think that folks who don't take care of themselves shouldn't burden everybody else in the plan, but I've known plenty of people who left UPS with a lifetime of wear and tear from just doing the job. They earned decent care by putting their bodies on the line for the company.

Wow. I wonder why Obama is so popular among the socialists then... I love it when Obama supporters defend Obama by saying he isn't a socialist & then defend the merits of socialism. I guess Obama's rhetoric is just that good...

If there is one thing Obama has proved himself to be good at, it's sounding smart to stupid people.

It is the same kind of reasoning that says "Obama wouldn't phase out our private health insurance plans to funnel people into a single payer system. But wouldn't it be awesome if we had nationalized healthcare?" Obama's smart enough to know how to instill that kind of ignorance in his own followers.

He only has to be smarter than you and his other followers . It evidently wasn't much of a challenge considering his massive Confederacy of fools.

Honestly, this is one of the most ignorant comments I've ever read. Your union and health insurance are products of socialism, as is the publicly funded education you received & roads/highways you travel on. In a pure capitalist society, unions don't exist, health insurance doesn't exist. So yes, I absolutely embrace many concepts of socialism. And while you may perceive Obama as a socialist, by European socialist standards he's leaning conservative.

We don't need Obama voters trying to redefine ignorance and socialism. Your simplistic view is that any partnership is socialist and while that may play well to the low-information Obama crowd, it isn't going to fool those of us that Judge our president by American standards.

deluting the definition of socialism to fit your argument isn't going to win many converts especially when the real world consequences of that failed ideology mean taking concessions in this contract and losing thegreat healthcare the Teamsters have fought for and enjoyed for decades. Tell us the truth are you, like Obama, in favor of nationalized healthcare?

I am. This isn't even close to it though. This is a gift to the insurance companies.

The individual mandate is a gift to the insurance companies. It's what Obama did to bring them on board. You are right to assume that they are not on our side either. It will make sense when the day comes that the insurance companies are "too big to fail" and can be taken over for that reason.

UPS always goes after us paying for healthcare contract time. Obamacare is just an excuse for them this time. Dont be fooled brothers and sisters! They dont want to give real good raises thats the real issue. We need atleast $1 an hr each year of the contract! They treat us like animals at my center, the heat doesnt even get turned on and its 15-20 degrees outside.

And if you are for nationalized healthcare then you should be ecstatic about the downgrade of our private health insurance plans knowing that that money is being redistributed to others. Stop fighting it and accept it. Its what you voted for.

Too big to fail. There's not hardly another phrase out there that pisses me off more.

If gm didn't get help would we magically had not had cars anymore? NO!!! Where there is demand someone will supply them.

If the Bank of America had went under guess what would of happened. It would of been split into thousands of small pieces and sold to smaller banks that were much more stable.

hall has already conceded the company's point about the additional money they will be paying for healthcare in his March 8th letter. Healthcare has been an issue at negotiations for decades and for decades Teamsters have bargained great insurance. what's different is that now under Obamacare, UPS is being penalized for it.

Totally agree. Except when the insurance companies become too big to fail, Obama will be there with his nationalized healthcare to save us.
