Obama's nightmare...the phone rings at 3:00 AM and...

One of the major items holding-up any recovery plans is Bush's insistence on a free trade pact with Colombia, which, if passed, would add a tiny bit of commerce to our present dismally low level. Most pundits think it's a last-minute move by the departing President to throw a wrench into the Democratic Congress ala' Bush 1, who dumped a nearly complete NAFTA agreement onto Bill Clinton's lap when he assumed the office. Is "W" trying to do the same thing?

If so, torpedoing the recovery effort for the sake of politics is disgusting, but entirely plausible given the way Bush/Cheney have screwed this county over.

Given the conservative bias on this site, I fully expect to be blasted from all quarters...I'm used to it, so go ahead and fire.

For what. Its your world. Politics as usual everything Bush does for us has some evil intent behind it while everything Obama does will be done to ensure our salvation. I'm sure the messiah will be passing the collection plate after every sermon. :happy-very:

All I'm saying is that NAFTA was pretty much the brainchild of Bush 41, and it worked wonders towards disrupting Democratic control of the Senate. How do you think the Contract On America came about? I think W is trying the same tactic by stubbornly clinging to his Colombian deal.

And I don't think Bush is inherently evil, just severely mis-guided. His dogged persistence on Iraq, Free Market Policy, and protecting the rich and powerful at the expense of the rest of us have all had dire consequences. Obama is no messiah, but he's a much brighter man than Bush, and at least willing to try different tactics and strategies. It's pretty clear that W's ideas have not been very good. If 3 terms were allowed, would you still want Bush at the helm for the next 4 years?

Diesel keep this one out of the liberal versus conservative venue. The person that has been getting banned engaged in what could amount to criminal stalking. There are actually laws out there that cover internet stalking. the state of Arizona for example appears to have some nicely written legal language on this topic. hint...hint....hint.

How does one stalk someone by political talking points......If thats the case you must be #1 on the "10 most wanted list" buy the number of slanderous post you've unleashed on all of us of the evil "Liberal Congress".....:stalker:

Real simple our liberal congress could have done things this year to help curtail the dramatic economic crash. As an example Pelosi refused to address the rising fuel cost issues and allowed congress to adjourn despite a concerted effort by americans to force them to address the issue before leaving.

I believe congress willfully refused to address the crashing economy because they knew it would help Obama get elected. They let an economy that was one of the strongest in history as recently as last year crash and burn quickly for political gain.

your side keeps calling it a bush economy. I keep pointing out that not only was Bush's hands on the wheel but so were the hands of your liberal congress.

You can't argue that point.

Where are you recieving your info from ? AS if Pelosi....Wonder Women and Congress had anything to do with rising oil prices ? Back in 03' a Rep control Congress had an effect on oil alright, by approving instability in the Middle East. Our actions looked upon by our adversaries as a security threat promping a surge in oil demand contracts and insecurity around the world. Hence, more demand equals rising prices. Since this last summer, worldwide consumers have conserved and taken notice. Demand has dropped with speculation around the world to expedite alternative energys resources. Naturally, this has Oil rich nations dropping prices to condition us into thinking all is well, no need to rush and make radical changes. But, Tie you go ahead and blame it on this congress for taking a session break, no one is going to stop you....It's just sad to see you like this....:hypnosis:

Strongest economy in history?...... How can anyone brag about any Rep' Adm claim to have the strongest economy in history from Reagan to Bush Jr. Each and every time a Rep' left office came astronomical deficits.
A strong economy for who, the powerful and wealthy who hord and reinvest their record profits and don't let it trickle down. The Corperations who still recieve tax cuts, yet still are fighting labor wars and moving operations overseas to increase profits and viability have done a disservice to our economy and our middle class sector. Tie, Obvisously, GREED is not in your vocabuary for the decline of the economy and the middle class....Just "liberal congress"....

Don't forget Bill Clinton. Bill was a big supporter and implementor of NAFTA.

Call Israel and put them in charge of vessel security. The next hijacking of a ship would also be the last one. For now, an AWACS aircraft and a couple of C-130 Spectre gunships patrolling the area would be a good bet. The current crop of Somalian thugs need to be taught a lesson...quickly.

So far only the Indian Navy has done anything.

I noticed that too. These pirates are hijacking these ships in speedboats, armed with AK-47s and RPGs. You would think that these shipping companies would start arming crews or hire some trained security guards.

one good 50 cal would do the trick. Nothing like seeing tracered rounds punch holes the size of soft balls in your boat to take the fun out of your pirating.:happy-very:

Navy Seals.

Isn't this what they're trained to do? Sneak on-board these ships, kill anyone who gets in their way, AND RE-TAKE THE VESSEL!

I'd give them free reign. Do what you gotta do, boys! Have fun!

The area is too large to contain, that super tanker was thought to be quite safe with its high sides and being 400+ miles offshore. With all the ransom monies paid to date these pirates have "friends" in every port and most likely onboard many ships as well.
There is over 2000 miles of coastline in this region with almost no local enforcement; Yemen has only 15 ships in its navy; 9 in operation , & only two deep water boats.
Using force to retake a ship is not very effective.
Using force to destroy all captured ships and the coastal regions where they are moored would be a better lesson. When the pirates see their paychecks going up in smoke, their harbors ruin, and oil from ships washing up in the beaches then maybe the message will get to them .

John McCain would already be up at 3 am taking his Geritol/Viagra cocktail so he could function the following day. He'd respond to the crisis, but only after the "Lawrence Welk" re-run was done on Channel 13. Come on, any President would consider his options before going ballistic on an enemy nation, including McRage.
Hey MFE, Why do you make fun of a genuine war hero who served his country honorably?
