top rate is 3 1/2 years not 4 years.... ( new contract is 4 years) unless this is different from supplement to supplement

I would say that you were hired under the "old contract and not the new one, since we are still working under the old

I had just gotten home on terminal leave and called a friend of mine who I had been stationed with here. Told me he was working at UPS and that they were hiring. Went to the Labor Department to apply---met with the center manager and DM, who was also a veteran---and was hired along with 3 others. I think one of them may have offered me a soda but there was definitely no dinner.

No matter what, you outside hires need to stay humble. Yes, the contract allows outside hiring, but you still haven't put in the time to be a UPSer. No summers spent loading/unloading a feeder, nor winters freezing your nuggets, overnight in a hub operation.

NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER take this opportunity for granted, because the contract that allows this for you was voted on by active UPS-Teamsters. Stay humble. Work hard. Don't become a company b!tch. Help your brothers every day of your career. You'd be back "outside" without them.

**I was an outside hire, but I came from pt management. I give thanks for my job and my brothers every day.

I've known some part timers that weren't worth a crap as drivers. It all depends on the individual. This job isn't for everyone. Putting time in as a part timer helps with adjusting to the UPS mind set but nothing can prepare anyone for the insanity we call driving.

You almost had me thinking we work at the same place. The guy who hired me was escorted out for similar reasons. And being that you've been there 5 years longer than me makes it really coincidental. But my guy wasn't fat.

Appreciate all the tips. Right after peak ft driver. I asked my friend before he told me I would have to spend a year as a package handler and then guaranteed driver position. After two months I told him ok no problem 120 percent I am ready. He told me he wanted to see how Serious I was and said I will interviewed for a ft driving position.

Interesting story. Your Honor may I cross examine?

If you took a job as package handler you would then be an inside hire subject to seniority. What does your powerful "friend" do for UPS that he has so much control? And do you know that 100% is the maximum % possible?
